Part A: Humoral Immunity (10 minutes)

Define humoral immunity:

Mediated by B-cells and involves the production of antibodies.

Works against extracellular pathogens like bacteria and viruses in the blood or lymph.

Explain the process:

Antigen recognition by B-cells.

Activation and proliferation into plasma cells and memory B-cells.

Antibodies neutralizing or marking pathogens for destruction.

Use a diagram to show how antibodies bind to antigens.

Part B: Cellular Immunity (10 minutes)

Define cellular immunity:

Mediated by T-cells and involves the direct killing of infected cells.

Effective against intracellular pathogens like viruses and some bacteria.

Explain the process:

Antigen presentation by infected cells or antigen-presenting cells (APCs).

Activation of cytotoxic T-cells (CD8+).

Destruction of infected cells through lysis or apoptosis.
