Previous lesson • Hot and cold. Pupils try to call the animals which live in Kazakhstan

Plan • Beginning • Teacher repeats all the animals which were covered at previous lesson with students by using pictures • T. divides students into two groups and play the game • “ Go fish”. Both groups are given the same pictures of animals. Pictures are placed face down, students in a clockwise turn over two pictures from different places as they wish. If pictures match to each other, student names it and takes as a point. (f.a.)

Main part • Teacher introduces students with the map of Kazakhstan and new words: the mountains, the forest, the plain, the river. Teacher should say a word and students should repeat after.

Total Physical Response • Teacher shows 4 places with gesture and names the places ones more. Then teacher just shows gesture and students should name the places themselves and also do the gesture .

Time for CLIL Teacher shows picture and introduces with the territory of Kazakhstan, shows where places the mountains, forests, rivers and plains. And name them (Alatau, Karatau, Zhayik, Ile, Esil, Shu).

Funny grammar • To teach prepositions of places: in, on . • Teacher puts the postcard of the map of Kazakhstan on the carpet and models of four places. • And introduces usage of the prepositions putting the animals in the forest, mountain, river and on the plain.

Regrouping • Teacher puts the animals on the desk and students should take the animals they want, one for each student. Then teacher regroups the student by animals which live in Kazakhstan and don’t live in Kazakhstan.

Work in groups • Teacher puts on the map the models of four places and students should put the animals on according to the animals’ place of living. • Live in Kazakhstan • Don’t live in Kazakhstan • Can live in Kazakhstan • Then students should name them and say to each group. For example: Tigers live in Kazakhstan. Elephants don’t live in Kazakhstan. Zebras can live in Kazakhstan. (f.a.)

Critical thinking • Teacher gathers student s in a circle so that every student can see the pictures of animals and place of living. Teacher makes some rules together with student s to discipline. Students are shown pictures and asked to name them. Students should show an individual understanding of the new topic. At the end of this activity teacher nominates students. (f.a.) (S5)

Differentiation – how do you plan to give more support? How do you plan to challenge the more able learners? • While working in a circle, students can make a short competition. • While playing game more able students can prompt and help weaker students. • Stronger students can show their speaking skills while working with pictures of animals sticking and naming them but others may point the pictures according to teacher’s instructions.
