 Magritte Rene (1898-1967), Belgian surrealist painter. Born November 21, 1898.  From 1916 to 1918 he studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Brussels, after which he worked as a wallpaper designer and advertising decorator. The artist's early works were executed in the style of Cubism and Futurism, influenced by the work of the French futurist artist Fernand Léger.  In 1922, Magritte married Georgette Berger, whom he met at the age of fifteen. After the wedding, she became the only model for the paintings of the Belgian painter.
