In Paris, the system of Magritte's
conceptual painting was finally
formed and remained almost
unchanged until the end of the
artist's life. In the paintings of
the Belgian painter, there is
always a sense of tension and
mystery. “ Companions of

“ Empire of light ”
« I combined different concepts in
"Empire of Light", namely - the night
landscape and the sky in all the glory
of daylight. The landscape inclines us
to think about the night, the sky about
the day. In my opinion, this
simultaneous phenomenon of day and
night has the power to surprise and
enchant. And this power I call poetry ».

Magritte skillfully created a
contrast between beautifully
painted strange combinations of
surreal objects and natural
surroundings, for this purpose
the artist actively used symbols
of mirrors, eyes, windows in his
paintings

The Son of Man (1964) is
Magritte's most widely
disseminated work, parodies and
allusions to which are encountered
so often that the image already
lives separately from its creator.
Initially, Rene Magritte painted the
picture as a self-portrait, where
the figure of a man symbolized a
modern man who had lost his
individuality, but remained the son
of Adam, who could not resist
temptations - hence the apple
covering his face.

In 1953 Magritte draws the famous
"Golconda". Rene himself argued
that this picture personifies the one-
facedness of the crowd and the
loneliness of the individual in it, who
can touch real life - again - only in a
dream.
