Plan 1. Learn how to use defining relative clauses 2. Who whose where which. We can use relative clauses to join two sentences or to give more information about something. We use relative clauses to describe people, things, time, places or reasons. Relative pronoun comes after the noun it describes . . Write the following on the board: . • Ask students if they can join the sentences. Either elicit or introduce a way of joining the sentences by using who, e.g. I read a book last week. This is the book. This is the book which/that I read last week. • Explain that the sentence on the board is an example of a defining relative clause. The boy who won the prize was happy. Those jeans which you want to buy are really expensive.
