  • Suffix is a word part added to the end of the root word. You can use suffix to create new words – adjectives and adverbs.

- Today we will continue to describe personal qualities and we will revise learnt vocabulary. There are some famous people on the screen. Try to describe these characters.





Grammar topic: Comparative adjectives and adverbs.

We form comparative adjectives and adverbs by adding -er to the end of the word or putting more before the word.

  • One syllable: add -er (old → older)

  • Two syllable adjectives ending in -y: change -y to -ier (easy → easier)

  • Two or more syllables: put more before (famous → more famous)

  • Exceptions: cleverer, quieter, simpler, gentler, narrower

1. One-syllable adverbs: add -er

If an adverb has only one syllable, we usually just add -er to make it comparative: fast → faster. Here are some examples:

When an adverb has two or more syllables (like all -ly adverbs), we can make it comparative by adding more in front: quickly → more quickly. Look at these examples:
