Training objectives:


This coaching lesson is designed to prepare English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers working in secondary (high school) with knowledge and skills in active listening methodology.


Training outcomes:


By the end of this training participants will be able to:

  • apply listening effective strategies;

  • to develop learners’ listening skills in a motivating way;

  • improve their ability to listen and understand their own vocabulary;

Warming up: Quick Listening Exercise

Description: Play a short audio clip (30 seconds) of a busy street scene or nature sounds. Ask participants to jot down what they hear.

Goal: Get participants engaged and focused on listening.

Dividing into groups by using QR codes.




Eliciting.

Watching a video. Introduction.

  • What can you say about this video?

Yes, you are right. Having incorrect pronunciation causes listeners not to be understood.

  • What associations did you have while you were watching?

  • Can you guess the theme of today’s coach?

Brainstorming.

Answer the questions and discuss them with partners in outer and inner circles.

- What is the listening?

- Why do we use listening?

- When do we use listening?

- How do we use listening in the classroom?


Participants will greet each other.




Participants will take part in this action game.










Participants will be divided into three groups:

1 group – «Smart ones»

2 group - «Runners»

3 group - «Wits»


Participants will watch a short video and share their opinions.





Participants will guess the theme of the coaching.



Participants will make circles and walk round clockwise listening a music,and when the music stops they stop too and discuss the questions.

Activity 1. Theory time.

Define and classify the definitions with tasks given to you. You should put appropriate definitions with tasks into three stages.

While-listening

- 5-10 correct answers; 2 stars



Activity 2. Listening practice ‘’ How the food you eat affects your brain?’’


Now, watch a video, fill in the gaps and create tasks according to the three stages of listening.


1 group – «Smart ones » - Pre-listening

2 group - «Runners » - While listening

3 group - «Wits» - Post listening






Participants will recognize themselves with the rules and compare them, then learn and apply the definitions at three stages of listening:

Each group will listen and fill in gaps and create tasks according to the three stages of listening.
