The aims of the lesson: To train students to report the direct speech and explain the sequences
of tenses. To revise the forming of verb tenses.
To develop pupils’ speaking, writing and reading abilities.

4 Explanation of the Reported speech and changes. Sequences of tenses.
T: The term "sequence of tenses", i.e., the agreement of tenses, refers to the choice of the verb tense in the subordinate clause depending on the tense of the verb in the main clause. The rule of the sequence of tenses means that the tense in the subordinate clause is determined by the tense in the main clause and should agree with it both logically and grammatically.
The tenses in the object subordinate clause change in the following way
If the verb in the main clause is in the present, present perfect or in the future, the tense in the subordinate clause doesn't change
Say or tell
Say (we don’t know who is he or she talking to)
He said that he lived in Italy.
Tell ( we know who is he or she talking to)
Billy told me that he lived in Italy.
