Honesty is the most
expensive quality
A major component for
developing moral character is honesty. There are famous quotes,
said by a great personality like “Honesty is the first chapter in
the book of wisdom”. It holds good due to its ability to build,
shape and motivate integral values in one’s life. Honesty helps in
developing good attributes like kindness, discipline,
truthfulness, moral
integrity and more. Lying,
cheating, lack of trust, steal, greed and other immoral attributes
have no part in Honesty.
Although I am a 9th grade
student, the word "corruption" came across to me only a few times,
and I did not ask myself what does it mean? I understood that I
would soon go to study at a higher educational institution, and
there, probably, I would certainly get to know this word. When my
teacher invited me to take part in a competition and write an essay
on the topic "A person's choice - a world without corruption," when
I came across this word again, I realized that this concept is
unkind and alarming. And this, indeed, turned out to be
so. I turned to dictionaries and
learned that the word "corruption" is the moral corruption of
officials and politicians, expressed in illegal enrichment,
bribery, embezzlement and merging with mafia structures. A sad
beginning. Every person wants to live in a world in which there is
no evil, envy, bribery and self-interest, in a world that is filled
with love, goodness, happiness and mercy. So why is there bribery
in our world throughout its history, and is it possible to
eradicate it? Corruption today is one of the most pressing issues,
it is one of the most serious problems of our society. It becomes
part of a person's daily life, but requires an immediate
solution.
I live in a village, where
corruption, in my opinion, is not as “thriving” as in a big city.
Our parents work on the "land", we go to a regular school, where
rural children are kinder, more sympathetic and merciful, because
they have a different upbringing. However, I am afraid when I go to
study in the city and come across this unpleasant concept of
"corruption".
In our world, there are still
people who have conscience and honor in the first place, but they
are very rare to meet. For the most part, our world is all built on
bribery: for any services, officials are presented with gifts, for
a certain amount of money they get a job. So is it possible to get
rid of corruption? I am sure that it is possible, but it takes a
lot of effort, and not only for the state, but also for each person
individually. To date, many laws have been adopted, but nothing has
changed. So what do you do? Maybe toughen the penalties so that no
one even thinks about
a bribe. You can also resort
to a quick change of officials. Yes, all this is possible if
moral and ethical values are brought up in every family from
early childhood. Adults need to be an example for the whole younger
generation. And we must learn to be honesty.
Honest people are sincere, trustworthy and loyal,
throughout their life. Honesty is valuable and it is the habit of
utmost importance.
Thus, corruption is a negative
phenomenon. It undermines the foundations of society, creates
threats to development, contributes to a drop in confidence in
government agencies, destroys the economy and the morality of
society. To prevent this from happening, everyone needs to fight
this problem! Start with yourself, choose what is most important
for you: a clear conscience, the joy of achievements in life on
your own. It depends on you and me - in which state we will live:
honest or corrupt.
