Main part 32 min |
While – reading / listening Ex: 2 (7 min) Ss listen and read the text “Finn MacCool and the Giant’s Causeway” (What it is / The legend / The science). Play the audio once for the main idea, then Ss read again and answer the 5 questions in pairs. Ask CCQs: “Where do the giants live? Who is terrified? Who is awake?” Differentiation: «Verbal support» method is used: in a weaker class T asks Ss to underline the answer in the text for each question. In a stronger class Ss cover the text and answer from memory. Ex: 3 (4 min) Ss use words from “Check these words” to complete the sentences. Check in pairs, then with the class.
Ex: 4 (3 min) Study the Grammar box: too + adjective (negative), adjective + enough (positive), quite / very. Ss choose the correct adverb. Ex: 5 Listening (5 min) a) Ss look at the advert for the book “Myths & Legends” and predict what is missing in gaps 1–5 (a name, a noun or a number). b) Ss listen and complete the gaps. Then ask: “Does the speaker like the book? How do you know?” (FL) Task: 1 (8 min) Legend or science? Groups of four (worksheet, Task 5). Part A: read the information card and sort the statements into “legend” and “science”. Post reading / speaking Ex: 6 (5 min) a) Ss make notes (main characters; where they lived; how the story began; what happened next; the main event; the end). b) Ss retell the story in pairs using the Study Skills box: once, one day, after this, then, when, before, in the end. |
