Learners have met 8.5.3.1 if they can use past tenses appropriately in the story and errors do not distract from reading the story.

Learners have met 8.5.6.1 if they can use connectors to link clauses appropriately.

Learners have met 8.5.8.1 if they can spell the words correctly and spelling errors do not distract from reading the story.

Learners have met 8.5.9.1 if the can punctuate the story correctly; their use of commas is appropriate.

Well done, now for the last 2 weeks we have been talking on the theme “Travel and transport”

Today we are having the lesson on the theme “A memorable journey” Can you give synonyms to the word “journey”?

That’ right. Please open your books at page 87 there is a text “ A trip to Bayanaul”.

1. Where did they go last month?

2. How did they get to Ekibastuz?

3. What did they see in Bayanaul?

4. Where did they have a picnic?

5. Where did he meet some tourists?

6. Who was MRS Mametova?

7. What was the weather like in the end?

Draw learners’ attention on linking words which are in bold. Get them work in pairs and find connectors which:

• join similar ideas

• refer to time

• join contrasting ideas

• show consequence

Now we are going to interview you

Tell learners that they will write a short story on the following topic: “The Most Exciting Holiday of My Life”.

Tell learners that their story should have three parts (introduction, main body and conclusion).

Introduce rubrics and explain the expected outcomes from learners. Tell learners that they should start to brainstorm their ideas and plan their story. Give learners graphic organisers for planning their story.

Next lesson learners will peer review their stories and give feedback to each other. After peer-reviewing learners will edit their drafts and submit their final draft to the teacher. Teacher should organize the process and give learners clear guidelines and directions.
