Degrees of comparison of adjectives:

Superlative.

(Степени сравнения прилагательных: превосходная)

Превосходная степень сравнения прилагательных образуется при помощи окончания –“est” для односложных слов и при помощи слова “most” для многосложных слов.

Нужно помнить о том, что перед прилагательным в превосходной степени сравнения обязательно должен быть определенный артикль “the”.

Например:

• Long –the longest (длинный – самый длинный);

• Hot – the hottest (жаркий – самый жаркий);

• Easy – the easiest (легкий – самый легкий);

• Difficult – the most difficult (трудный – самый трудный);

• Expensive — the most expensive (дорогой – самый дорогой);

• Famous – the most famous (известный – самый известный);

• Today is the hottest day of the month. (Сегодня самый жаркий день месяца.);

• This hotel is the most expensive in the city. (Этот отель самый дорогой в городе.);

• This poet is the most famous in his family. (Этот поэт — самый известный в своей семье.);

• This task is the easiest one in the book. (Это задание – самое легкое в книге.)

8. Прилагательные “good” “bad” “far” “much/many” образуют превосходную степень не по правилу:

• the best, the worst, the furthest, the most.
