Аннотация:

В настоящее время одним из актуальных вопросов, обсуждаемых в неанглоязычных странах, является поиск эффективных путей обучения иностранным языкам молодежной части населения.Потому что человек, знающий мировые языки, может создавать новые полезные инновации, делясь опытом с зарубежными учеными. В своем роде он может быть полезен как для жителей, так и для правительства.Это исследование сосредоточено на одном из выдающихся методов в обучении иностранным языкам, который называется "прямой метод".Прямой метод используется для обучения детей, игнорируя двуязычие и грамматико-переводческий метод.

Abstract:

Nowadays one of the actual issues which is being discussed among non-English speaking countries is to find out effective ways of teaching foreign languages to youth part of population.Because a person who knows world languages can create new beneficial innovations by sharing experiences with scientists abroad. In its way it can be helpful for inhabitants as well as government.This study focus on one of the outstanding method in teaching foreign languages which is called “direct method”.Direct method is used to teach children by ignoring bilingualism and grammar-translation method.

Introduction

Direct method is a kind of method in which teacher and students communicate in target language rather than students` native language.In this method a great deal of attention is paid to improve student`s pronunciation as well as their speaking and listening skills.It can help learners to practice target language effectively in every day speech.Moreover, the capability of understanding native speakers` speeches can be improved by using this method.Vocabulary is taught by showing pantomimes and flashcards.

The direct method of teaching, which is sometimes called the natural method, and is often (but not exclusively)used in teaching foreign languages, refrains from using the learners’ native language and uses only the target language. It was established in Germany and France around 1900 and contrasts with the Grammar translation method and other traditional approaches, as well as with C.J.Dodson’s bilingual method.It was adopted by key international languages schools such as Berlitz and Inlingua in the 1970s and many of the language departments of the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S.State Department in 2012.

Language-teaching method developed as an outgrowth of the natural method attributed to L. Sauveau (1826–1907) in the 1860s. The direct method, according to which instruction is to take place exclusively in the target language, became established in France and Germany around the turn of the century. Other goals and strategies that characterize this methodology include: the presentation of vocabulary through the use of pantomime and visuals, thus avoiding translation; an inductive approach to grammar; the primacy of the spoken language and the emphasis on correct pronunciation; a reliance on question-answer exercise formats. It was only cautiously and marginally embraced in Britain and North America outside of commercial schools. Recent communicative approaches to language teaching have questioned the theoretical basis and techniques of the direct method, including its teacher-centered strategies, its disregard for process strategies, its lack of emphasis on sociopragmatic competency, etc.( Bussmann, Hadumod (1996)

According to Krause (1916) ,one danger in this method when followed to its extreme – that personality is too important a factor.Method alone, even the Reform Method , cannot produce phenomenal results unless it be in the hand of a more than ordinary pedagogy.The demands upon the teacher`s energy, wealth of information , and ingenuity, at least in the higher grades , are of such a nature that the average instructor will, in necessity,somewhat modify this method to suit his own individuality.But no teacher of Modern Languages can ignore the “Reform ” any longer: indeed , he must accept its cardinal principles.

Researcher Mark Skidmore (1917)show that direct method gives an impression of life and vitality and reality to the language being taught.Because with the help of this method learners feel themselves more motivated to improve their language skills practically.A pupil tries to work on himself hard to be able to expain his thoughts or preferences in foreign language.

A best and successful teacher of Direct Method which needs the ability of language, physical mental energy, strength, imagination (that you have to form pictures or ideas in your mind of things that you are exciting) skills and strong health. That must be resourceful in the way of body gestures and expression by the evidence that are against linguistic feeling of physical or mental tiredness in the way of teaching language (Duchackova, 2006).

The Direct Method help the students to understand language that help with ease of language. Language that depend upon the use of sentences how to communicate with each other not for the words (Vietor 1882) that help the students to learn the earlier speech. Direct Method that is influence the target language as best instruction for teaching skills or detailed information and classroom communication language. Through the activities of Direct Method which always give the enthusiastic and interesting that attracts its attention for the knowledge of foreign language.

Students can understand easily if teachers uses direct method because this method enhance communication skills of the students.

One of the merit of direct method is to give interest to young learners. Through this method , learners can find entertaining aspects, such as pantomime. Pantomime can be engrossing as well as beneficial. With the help of it one can imagine in mind logical picture of vocabulary and then easily associate it with the action.

Conclusion

In conclusion , one can say that using direct method can be helpful instead of old methods.This method was long under discussion , because opponents of this method can give demerits of direct method , such as insufficience of well-trained teachers or some problems shown in teaching complex words. However , I believe that direct method can stuggle with these oppositions , showing great results of children who are taught with this method.
