Greeting & Engagement (5 minutes):

Good afternoon dear teachers, guests, students! Today, we’re going to explore how English is used all around us, not just in our textbooks.” And the participants of this competition are the students of 8th grade. Our mother tongue is kazakh, but it is necessary and useful to learn a foreign language, that is why we’ll spend this competition. Our competition consists of 5 tours. Now, let’s introduce with the judges of our competition.

Question: “Think about your walk to school today. Did you notice any English words or phrases? How do you think what places in our village have English names?”

Teacher: “That’s fantastic! It seems we are surrounded by English. Today, we will investigate this in more detail!”

First of all, participants will introduce themselves in English language.

1. Let’s travel abroad

Matching task: Match the information with pictures about English-speaking countries.

2. Wheel of fortune

In this task you will have to solve riddles and puzzles by spinning the wheel of fortune.

3. Mystery box

In this task you need to find the name of the object hidden in the box and name it in English.

4. Cultural english

In this task you will need to explain the given landmarks of English speaking countries using a 3D model.

5. Who knows more?

In the last task you need to identify true/false sentences related to today's topic.
