Exercise 1 Read the dialogue and translate Jenny: Are you OK, John? You don't look well. John: I feel terrible. Jenny: Oh dear! What's wrong? John: I've got a dreadful toothache. Jenny: Why don't you take a painkiller? John: I did, but it still hurts. Jenny: When did you take it? John: About an hour ago. Jenny: Well, it should make you feel better soon. John: I can't stand it any longer. Jenny: Then you should see a dentist. John: I hate going to the dentist. Jenny: I'm sorry, but you have to go. John: I suppose you're right.
Exercise 3 Find sentences in the dialogue which mean: A)You look awful. B) I feel awful. C)What's the matter? D)I think you are right.
Exercise 4 Read the dialogue. Take roles and read it aloud.

Discuss. 4.What do you do to keep fit and healthy? Compare with others. 5.How many serious or terminal illnesses do you know? (e.g. cancer) Work in a group and make a list. (terminal: cannot be cured) 6.What are the main causes of death? Are they the same for younger and older people? Brainstorm. 7.What is the average life expectancy in your country? Is it the same for men and women? 8.How often do you have a medical checkup? 9.Does your country have good medical healthcare? Explain. 10.Have you ever stopped doing something for your health? Talk about it. 11.Have you had any vaccines? If so, against which diseases? Are you afraid of needles? 12.What are the worst jobs for your health? What about the best ones? Brainstorm in group. 13.How is your mental health? Do you know anyone with a mental disorder? (eg. schizophrenia) 14.How is your health? What health problems do you worry about the most? 15.What diseases kill the most people worldwide?Do research and discuss. 16.What sports can be damaging to your health? In what way? In your opinion, what are the healthiest sports? 17. Is being a doctor or nurse a good job? Would you like to do this job? Why or why not? 18.How can the environment be damaging to someone's health? Explain.
