Beginning of the lesson

Introduction to the new lesson

Psychological Climate:

• Students greet each other and the teacher with a smile.

• Students exchange warm wishes or short compliments to create a friendly atmosphere.

• A short energizer (clap game / “Say hello with a gesture”) is used to boost positive energy.

Arousing Interest (Motivation):

• The teacher shows a picture or short video related to the topic.

• Students answer warm-up questions (e.g., “What do you know about the United Kingdom?” / “How do people usually greet each other in different countries?”).

• Students share their first associations with the lesson topic.

Introduction to the New Lesson:
The teacher introduces the topic by showing images of international meetings at airports or business offices. Students are asked: “What do people usually say when they meet for the first time?” and “Why is cultural etiquette important in business?”. This leads students to understand the importance of greetings, introductions, and first impressions.

- Students share their ideas.

- They greet the teacher and get ready for the lesson.

- They actively participate in creating a positive psychological atmosphere (give warm wishes to each other, make small movements, respond to a thought).

- They get acquainted with the lesson objectives and reflect on what they expect from today’s work.

Task 1. Reading & Comprehension – “Facts about the UK”

Format: Individual reading, followed by group discussion.

Text:
The United Kingdom (UK) is made up of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The capital city is London. The UK is a constitutional monarchy, which means that the King or Queen is the Head of State, while the Prime Minister is the Head of Government. The Parliament consists of two Houses: the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Each country also has its own traditions, culture, and local government structures.

Task:
Read the text and answer the questions:

1. How many countries does the UK consist of?

2. What is the capital city of the UK?

3. What is the system of government?

4. What is the structure of Parliament?

Task 2. Group Work – Mind Map “Political and Administrative Structure”

Format: Group work, poster creation.

Task:
Students are divided into 3–4 groups. Each group creates a mind map on the topic “The Political and Administrative Structure of the UK.”
For example:

• Monarchy → King/Queen

• Prime Minister → Head of Government

• Parliament → House of Commons, House of Lords

• Countries → England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland

Each group presents their poster to the class.

Task 3. Role-play / Speaking – “Meeting at the Airport”

Format: Pair work, role-play.

Task:
In pairs, students create a dialogue simulating an international partner being met at the airport.
Required expressions:

• Greeting: “Good morning, welcome to London!”

• Introduction: “My name is Mr. Smith, I am your business partner.”

• Small talk: “How was your flight?”

• Farewell: “I will take you to the hotel now.”

Student’s actions:
Read the text individually → highlight key words → answer the questions → discuss in groups → one student presents answers to the class.

• Describes the political and administrative structure of the UK;

• Names at least three important facts correctly.

Discuss in groups → design the poster → present to the class → answer peers’ questions.

End of the lesson

“Unfinished Sentence” Method
At the end of the lesson, the teacher listens to students’ reflections and attitudes towards the lesson in order to summarize.

Purpose: Students develop the skill of analyzing and reflecting on the knowledge they have gained.
Effectiveness: Identifies students’ opinions on the topic and ensures that the collected feedback is valuable.
Differentiation: At this stage, the “Conclusion” type of differentiation is used.

Homework: Write a short essay or prepare a project related to environmental issues.
