Golden Autumn Party

Leader 1 : Good morning, dear teachers and friends!

Welcome to our party!

Leader 2: Good day to everybody! We are happy to see you on our party today!

Leader 1 : Autumn has come. In autumn there is plenty of fruit. The corn is ripe in autumn. It begins in September and ends in November. Autumn is harvest time. In autumn all leaves turn red, yellow and brown. Nature is beautiful in autumn.

Leader 2: Birds fly away to warm countries. The days are becoming shorter, the sun loses its force. It often rains, the weather becomes colder and in the morning there is a mist or a fog. September, October and November are autumn months.

Autumn, autumn, autumn!

The summer is over,

The trees are bare,

There’s mist in the garden

And frost in the air.

Warm September brings the fruit,

Sportsmen then begin to shoot.

Fresh October brings the pheasant,

Then to gather nuts is pleasant.

Dull November brings the blast,

Then the leaves are whirling fast.

Leader 1: In September you can still see some summer flowers around. Towards the middle of September the leaves begin to change their colour. There are many mushrooms in September. Many animals are now preparing for the coming winter.

In September you can see more birds than in August. They gather in flocks and get ready for their flight to the South.

Leader 2: Yes, it is pleasant to spend summer by the seaside or somewhere in the country. October is the month of flaming colours, of nuts and ripe grapes, of the last flowers, of falling leaves, and of the first frosts.

The flight of the birds to the South continues. Many animals are making their homes comfortable for the winter.

“Falling Rain”

Everything is shining wet

It falls with trickling, splashing sounds

Leader 1: November is the month of bare trees, of the first signs of winter, and of the first snow. As the trees have lost almost all their leaves you can discover nests which were hidden during the summer. The weather begins to get cold, and more and more animals go to sleep.

Leader 1 : Dear teachers and friends! Today at our party we are going to see the competition between the 6^th formers. The participants of the contest “I know English!” should divide into four teams and answer the questions asked by the leader. The teams will do the tasks in turns. The Fox and the Crane

Scene 1

The Fox and the Crane appear before the curtain on the opposite sides of the stage and meet in the centre.

Fox: Good morning, my dear friend.

Crane: Good morning, Foxy.

Fox: How are you? I haven’t seen you for ages.

Crane: Thank you. I am all right.

Fox: I am so glad to see you. Come and have dinner with me, my dear Crane. Oh, thank you!

They go away together.

Scene 2

The Fox’s house. A table and two chairs stand in the middle of the room. The Fox and the Crane enter the room.

Fox: Here is my home. Sit down, dear Crane. Dinner will be ready in a minute.

The Crane sits at the table. The Fox puts a plate with porridge on the table.

Fox: Help yourself, dear. The porridge is very good.

The Crane pecks at the porridge with her sharp bill, but she cannot get a bit.

Fox: I hope you like the porridge, my dear. I have cooked it myself.

The Crane continues to peck from the plate. At the same time the Fox begins to lap up the porridge and soon there is nothing left.

Fox: Sorry, my dear Crane, but I have nothing else to give you.

Crane: Thank you all the same, I’ve had enough. Come and have dinner with me. Good-bye.

Scene 3

The Crane’s room with a table and two chairs in the middle. The Crane is busy preparing dinner. There is a knock at the door.

Crane: Come in.

Fox: Good afternoon, Crane.

Crane: Oh, Foxy, glad to see you. You are just in time for dinner.

The Fox sits at the table and the Crane gives him some soup in a jug with a narrow neck.

Crane: Help yourself to the soup, my friend.

The Fox cannot get the soup. The Crane laughs and eats all the soup away.

Crane: Sorry, my friend, but I have nothing else to give you.

Fox: I am very hungry.

Crane: I was hungry after your dinner, too. Good-bye, dear friend Fox. We are no longer friends.

The Fox runs out of the room.

The Ant and the Grasshopper

Scene 1

Story-teller: It is summer now. The day is hot and sunny. An Ant is working near its little house.

Ant: Oh, how hot it is! I am very tired. But I must work. Winter will come soon.

Story-teller: And who is coming here? It is a Grasshopper.

Grasshopper: How do you do, Ant? What are you doing?

Ant: How do you do, Grasshopper? I am working.

Grasshopper: Why are you working? The day is hot. Stop working. Let’s lie in the sun.

Ant: No, no. Winter will come soon. Where shall I get food then?

Grasshopper: Winter will not come soon. It is summer now. It is so nice in the fields. Let’s go to the river.

Ant: No, I can’t. And what do you do all the time?

Grasshopper: I dance and sing all day long. Let’s dance and sing together.

Ant: No, no. I have no time to dance and sing. The winter is long and cold. I must be ready for it.

Grasshopper: I don’t like winter. I like summer. Look how I can dance. (Dancing.) I don’t like to work in summer.

Ant: But you must! What will you eat in winter?

Grasshopper: I don’t want to think of winter. Good-bye, Ant! I shall sing and dance.

Goes away, dancing.

Ant: Good-bye, Grasshopper. You don’t want to work now. You will have nothing to eat in winter.

Scene 2

Story-teller: It is winter now. It is very cold. The sun doesn’t shine. The Grasshopper is cold and hungry.

Grasshopper: Oh, how cold it is! I am cold and hungry. What can I do? Oh, here is Ant’s house.

He knocks at the door.

Ant (comes out): Who is there?

Grasshopper: It’s your friend, the Grasshopper.

Ant: What do you want?

Grasshopper: Let me in, please. I am cold and hungry. Give me something to eat.

Ant: You danced and sang all summer, Grasshopper. Now dance and sing all winter. Good-bye!

He closes the door. The Grasshopper drops his head and goes away shivering and crying bitterly.

Story-teller: You see, children, what happens, when you do not want to work in time.

Ant (out of the window): All right! Come in! That will be a lesson for you. Will you work in summer?

Grasshopper: Oh, I am ready to work even in winter! Thank you, my dear friend!

Leader 1: Every season is beautiful in its own way. To my mind, autumn is the best!

Leader 2: We congratulate the winners with their success! You have proved that you are the best, dear friends!
