Teacher says: “Good morning, everyone! Please take your seats. How are you today?”

Teacher says: “Today we start Unit 1, Home and away. Our topic is Familiar words. By the end of the lesson, you will be able to name familiar objects, understand short dialogues and ask: ‘What’s this in English?’”

Teacher says: “Today you can get 10 points. Remember our Adal azamat values: work honestly, respect your partner, help each other and take responsibility for your own answers.”

Teacher holds up a book, pen, bag, phone and points to a table. Teacher asks: “What’s this in English?” After responses, teacher says: “Good. Answer in a full sentence: ‘It’s a book.’ If the word begins with a vowel sound, remember ‘an’.”

Greet the teacher and prepare for the lesson.

Listen to the lesson goals and assessment rules.

Name familiar classroom objects and answer: “It’s a/an …”.

Demonstrate respectful pair/class behaviour.

Verbal feedback and observation. No points at this stage.

Task 1. Listening and reading — Exercise 1 (8 min)

Teacher says: “Open your books on page 4. Look at Exercise 1. You will hear three short dialogues. First, listen and read. Then choose the correct word in sentences 1–3. Do not call out the answers yet.”

Teacher plays Audio 1.02. Then says: “Now compare your answers with your partner. Choose one answer and show me the exact words in the dialogue that prove it.”

Teacher checks answers: “Number one? Why? Which line gives you the answer?”

Answers: 1 — student; 2 — friends; 3 — teacher.

Photo task: Student’s Book p. 4, Exercise 1

Task 2. Pair speaking — Exercise 2 + Worksheet 1 (8 min)

Teacher says: “Listen again. Pay attention to pronunciation and intonation. Now work with your partner. Student A reads the first role; Student B reads the second role. Then change roles.”

Teacher gives Worksheet 1 and says: “Change one name and one object in the dialogue. Practise again without reading every word. Help your partner if they forget a word, but do not answer instead of them.”

Possible answer: “What’s this in English?” — “It’s a book / a pen / a bag / a phone.” For the dialogue substitution task, learners’ names and objects may vary.

Career Guidance Minute (2 min)

Teacher says: “Today we practise clear speaking and checking meaning. English teachers, translators, interpreters and tour guides use these skills every day. Which profession needs clear English speaking most? Tell your partner one reason.”

Task 3. Vocabulary + speaking + digital self-check — Exercises 3–4 (14 min)

Teacher says: “Look at Exercise 3. Match the 12 pictures with the words in the box. Work independently first. Then ask your partner: ‘What’s this in English?’ Your partner answers: ‘It’s a/an …’ Complete at least six exchanges.”

Answers (Exercise 3): 1 — book; 2 — pen; 3 — bag; 4 — computer; 5 — car; 6 — poster; 7 — table; 8 — boy; 9 — teacher; 10 — bicycle; 11 — phone; 12 — girl.

Photo task: Student’s Book p. 4, Exercise 3

Teacher says: “When you finish your own answers, open ChatGPT only for checking. Type your completed answers. Use this instruction: ‘Check my answers only. Show mistakes in the familiar word, spelling, the question What’s this in English?, the answer It’s a/an … and the article a/an. Do not rewrite the whole task.’ Compare the feedback with your book and correct the final version yourself.”

Exercise 4: learners’ drawings and answers will vary. Accept any correct familiar object named with “It’s a/an …”.

Worksheet 2 answers: 1 — learner’s own correct word; 2 — in; 3 — a; 4 — an; 5 — learner’s own correct question–answer exchange.

Teacher says: “If you finish early, complete the Wordwall or Wayground/Quizizz vocabulary game. If devices are not available, complete Worksheet 2.”

Task 1: listen/read the three dialogues, choose answers, compare and justify one answer with evidence.

Task 2: practise the dialogue twice, change roles, then substitute one name and one object using Worksheet 1.

Career guidance: name one profession and explain how clear English is used in that job.

Task 3: independently match 12 pictures, complete at least six question-answer exchanges, then use ChatGPT only to check completed work and make their own corrections.

Fast finishers: complete the teacher-prepared Wordwall or Wayground/Quizizz activity, or Worksheet 2.
