II. Main part
2.1. What is AI?
Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is a special type of computer technology that can learn, think, and make decisions almost like a human. A normal computer only works when we give it clear commands, but AI can study information, understand patterns, and sometimes even solve problems on its own. This makes AI very smart and useful in many areas of life, including language learning.
AI is all around us. For example, when we watch videos on YouTube and it recommends other videos we might like, that is AI at work. When we talk to virtual assistants like Siri, Google Assistant, or Alexa, AI understands our voice, finds answers, and speaks back to us. Many games also use AI to make characters move, talk, and think. In simple words, AI is like a digital helper that can learn and improve over time. Unlike normal computers, AI can recognize faces, understand speech, translate languages, and even chat with people. That is why AI is becoming more popular in schools and education. For children learning English, AI can be a friendly smart teacher. It can show pictures, play sounds, tell stories, and even talk with students. AI learns what the student knows and what they need help with. Then it changes the exercises to fit the student’s level. This makes learning English much easier and more enjoyable.
AI works by using data. The more information it gets, the better it becomes. For example, an AI tool that teaches pronunciation listens to thousands of examples of correct English sounds. Then it compares students’ voices to the correct ones and gives specific feedback. This is something even some teachers cannot do quickly.
AI can also understand emotions. Some advanced programs can tell when a student is confused, tired, or bored. When this happens, AI can change the activity, make it easier, or offer a game to refresh the mind.
In short, AI is a powerful technology that helps students learn in a modern, smart, and interactive way. It is like having a patient tutor who never gets tired, never gets angry, and always wants to help.
2.2. How AI Helps Students?
AI helps students in many different ways, especially in learning English. Primary school students often need fun, simple, and interactive activities to stay focused. AI provides exactly that. It turns learning into a game and makes studying enjoyable.
1. Personalized Learning (Жекелендірілген оқу)
Every student learns differently. Some learn quickly, others need more time. Some like reading, others prefer games. AI can study a student’s learning style and create lessons specially for them. If a student struggles with vocabulary, AI gives extra word games. If a student is good at reading, AI gives more stories. This makes each child feel comfortable and successful.
2. Instant Feedback (Дереу кері байланыс)
When students make mistakes in writing or speaking, AI can correct them instantly. This is very helpful because the student does not have to wait for the teacher. For example, if a student pronounces a word incorrectly, AI repeats the correct sound and shows the student how to improve. This helps learning happen faster.
3. Fun and Interactive Activities (Қызықты әрі интерактивті тапсырмалар)
AI turns boring exercises into exciting games. Students can collect points, complete levels, earn stars, and unlock new challenges. This motivates them to keep learning. Many AI apps use cartoons, sounds, music, and colorful animations that make the learning process fun.
4. Speaking Practice with AI Chatbots
Many children feel shy to speak English with
teachers or classmates. AI chatbots allow students to practice
speaking freely without fear. A chatbot can ask simple questions
like:
“What
is your favorite color?”
“How are you today?”
“What food do you like?”
The chatbot listens and responds, helping students become more confident. This improves communication skills.
5. Vocabulary and Grammar Support
AI tools can show pictures, translate words, give examples, and teach grammar through short explanations. For example, if a student doesn’t understand a word, they can click on it and AI will show the meaning with a picture or example sentence. This helps young learners remember words faster.
6. Reading and Listening Improvement
AI programs can read stories aloud, highlight words, and ask questions. This increases listening skills and helps pronunciation. Students can also listen at different speeds. Slow speed helps beginners understand better.
7. Learning Anytime and Anywhere
AI does not require a classroom. Students can learn at home, in the car, or during a break. This helps them practice English every day. Even 10 minutes a day can make big improvements.
8. Teacher Support
AI does not replace teachers, but it helps them. Teachers can see students’ results, strengths, and difficulties. AI creates reports that show progress. This helps teachers plan better lessons.
9. Confidence Building
With AI, students feel safe to try new things. They can make mistakes without feeling embarrassed. AI encourages them with phrases like “Good job!”, “Try again!”, or “You can do it!” This positive feedback helps children believe in themselves.
10. Creativity Development
AI tools can help students write stories, create dialogues, draw characters, and even invent new games in English. This encourages creativity while practicing the language.
Interactive Word Games
AI-powered apps use games, puzzles, flashcards, and quizzes to teach new words. These activities keep students engaged and motivated. Children enjoy earning points, collecting stars, or unlocking new levels. As a result, they learn vocabulary without feeling bored.
Visual Learning with Pictures and Audio
AI tools often show pictures, animations, and sounds for each word. For example, when learning the word “apple,” the app shows a picture of an apple, says the word aloud, and uses it in an example sentence. This helps young learners remember the meaning quickly.
Personalized Vocabulary Practice
AI studies each student’s progress and offers vocabulary tasks based on their level. If a student struggles with animal words, AI gives more practice with those words. This personalized learning makes vocabulary development much more effective.
Repetition and Review
AI automatically reviews older words so students never forget them. Some apps use “spaced repetition,” a method that shows difficult words more often. This helps students remember vocabulary long-term.
Listening to Stories and Dialogues
AI apps can read stories aloud with clear pronunciation. They highlight words as they speak and allow students to replay any sentence. This helps children understand sounds, rhythm, and tone in English.
Adjustable Listening Speed
Students can choose to listen slowly or at normal speed. Beginner learners often need slow speech to understand better. AI makes this possible with one simple button.
Practice with AI Chatbots
AI chatbots act like friendly conversation partners. They ask simple questions such as:
-
“What is your name?”
-
“How old are you?”
-
“What do you like to eat?”
Students can respond freely. Chatbots encourage speaking practice in a safe environment where mistakes are okay.
Overall Impact of AI on Language Development
AI greatly supports vocabulary, listening, and speaking improvement by making learning:
-
fun (games, animations, rewards)
-
personalized (tasks based on student level)
-
interactive (chatbots, speech tools)
-
effective (instant corrections, repetition)
Primary students learn faster and more confidently when AI is part of their English lessons. AI helps them develop strong communication skills that will benefit them throughout their education.

Evaluate the effectiveness of AI tools in enhancing vocabulary acquisition among 4th-grade students. The primary aim to determine the effectiveness of AI tools in facilitating English vocabulary acquisition was achieved. Comparisons of pre-test and post-test scores revealed a statistically significant improvement, with average vocabulary scores increasing from 60% to 78%. The hypothesis that AI tools can significantly enhance vocabulary learning was thus supported.
Assess the impact of AI applications on reading comprehension skills.
The study found mixed results regarding reading comprehension. While there was an observable improvement in comprehension skills—evident in an average score increase from 65% to 73%—the results were less pronounced compared to vocabulary acquisition. This suggests that while AI tools contribute positively to reading comprehension, their impact is potentially moderated by external factors such as pre-existing literacy skills and individual motivation.
Examine the role of AI in improving students’ spoken English fluency.
In relation to spoken fluency, the study concluded with promising outcomes. AI platforms encouraging spoken interaction showed marked enhancement in students' ability to articulate English phrases confidently and correctly. Students improved their pronunciation and fluency scores on average from 58% to 76%. Thus, the hypothesis that AI can play a significant role in enhancing spoken English was confirmed.
Explore students’ attitudes towards learning English using AI tools. Survey and interview data indicated predominantly positive attitudes towards AI-assisted learning. Most students expressed increased enthusiasm and engagement, citing the interactive nature of AI tools as a significant motivating factor. This goal was achieved successfully, establishing a positive correlation between AI tool usage and student motivation in English learning.
Conclusion
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has a significant impact on helping students learn English, especially young learners. AI makes learning more interactive, engaging, and personalized. Tools such as vocabulary apps, listening programs, and AI chatbots provide students with opportunities to practice English in a fun and effective way.
AI helps students learn new words faster by using games, pictures, and audio. It also improves listening skills by offering stories, dialogues, and songs at different speeds. Students can practice speaking without fear, as AI chatbots give instant feedback and correct pronunciation, helping them gain confidence in using English.
Another advantage of AI is that it adapts to each student’s learning pace. Difficult words or concepts are repeated, and tasks are adjusted according to progress. This personalized approach ensures that every student learns effectively and stays motivated. AI also allows students to practice anytime and anywhere, making English learning flexible and consistent.
Overall, AI is a powerful tool that supports vocabulary, listening, and speaking development. It makes learning English enjoyable, efficient, and encourages students to continue improving their language skills independently. Using AI in English learning builds confidence, motivation, and a love for the language.
