Inequality of genders in employment

The majority of higher management roles in organizations are occupied by males despite the fact that more than half of employees are females in developed countries. Some people believe that employers should distribute part of these positions to females. I totally disagree with this statement for the reasons of gender equality and personal characteristics.

First, separating employees into two or more groups and distributing work places only occurs if employers hire highly skilled, specialists who actually are competitive in their job, regardless the gender. All queens and kings have been able to cope with all their demanding everyday work. Therefore, both female and male can be promoted into higher management roles.

Another important point is that maternity leave can interrupt career of successful women. Even if male also may have a break in order to take care of a newborn baby, the rate of females taking maternity leave obviously exceeds the number of males. The results of the research done by students of the University of Cambridge shows that after having a baby 7 out of 10 females in the highest positions of organizations can’t manage with responsibilities in the workplace. That is why distributing high management roles mainly for women are not competent.

To conclude, organizations shouldn’t allocate managerial positions by considering only the gender of employees. Only employees who have prospered in their job should be promoted to the best efficiency. Also, hiring women to this type of positions might be dangerous due to maternity leave that will affect their career.
