Greetings. Teacher presents lesson objectives.

Lead-in:

Pre –teaching

Learners are given the matching task.

Learners match the words with their definitions.

(to celebrate, to be held, to take place, to parade the streets, congratulate, to defend, firework, heroism).

Teacher asks to write down new words.

Elicit the festival they are going to write about. Elicit some ideas/information that they can include into each paragraph.

Practice

• Learners are given the article about Indian Festival. Learners put the sentences in the correct order and they compare two festivals (Nauryz and Indian Festival). They discuss each paragraph using the tips.

• Ask students to find the similarities and differences between them. (festivals/cultural/ traditional food, games/mass festival)

• Focus their attention on the tenses that are used in the article. (Present and Past). Elicit what paragraphs should be written in Present Simple and Past Simple.

Learners work individually and then check in pairs. Teacher elicits their answers and provides open class discussion.

Tips for writing:

• Use a catchy title to get people interested

• Ask direct questions to get the reader’s attention

• Use opinion adverbs to introduce your points

• Divide your ideas into paragraphs

• Introduction: we include general information about the event such as its name, where and when it is held and what the celebration is for.

• In the second paragraph: we write about the preparations for the event.

• In In the third paragraph: we describe the actual event itself.

• In the conclusion: we write our impressions, reactions and recommendations.

Production: Writing

Learners write an article for a school magazine about Victory Day (80-100 words). They have to use the tips from the previous exercise.

Teacher provides open class feedback.
