Monument to the outstanding academician

It was decided to establish a monument to academician Kanysh Satpayev, who made a great contribution to the development of the city, in the industrial center of Akmola region – Stepnogorsk.

Stepnogorsk is a special place. This is a city of miners, scientists, large enterprises associated with the processing of uranium and gold. So the decision to put here a monument to an outstanding geologist, the remarkable organizer of science Kanysh Imantayevich Satpayev, is not at all accidental.

He is the founder of the republican geological service, the founder of the Big Zhezkazgan and the Institute of Geological Sciences, the first president of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan. One of the brightest pages of the history of geological exploration and discovery of the mineral wealth of our republic, the organization of extensive comprehensive research aimed at the early identification of mineral deposits and the expansion of the mineral resource base is associated with his name.

By the beginning of 1953, under the leadership of Kanysh Satpayev, it was possible to perform basically the entire scope of work on collecting and processing extensive geological material in Central Kazakhstan, which made it possible to complete the preparation of working models and systematic forecast metallogenic maps of this region by the beginning of 1954.

It can be said that thanks to the geological research of the scientist, the rich metal content in the Bestobe-Zholymbet zone was the oretically justified. The development of ore in Bestobe and Zholymbet began as early as the 30s of the last century, but it was the rich gold content and the absence of uranium tracking that was proved on the basis of Satpayev’s metallogenic maps.

It should be noted that the creation of the city Stepnogorsk practically from scratch in the 60s would have been impossible without the basic principles of compiling these metal-predictive maps, which were the first not only in Kazakhstan, but in the world.

Today, the Akmola region is considered a large mining region of Kazakhstan, with a quarter of republican gold reserves, 5.5% uranium, 3.1% titanium, 3% iron, manganese, and molybdenum. The region has the only explored technical diamond deposit in the country - Kumdykolskoye, 51 ore mineral deposits, of which 32 are gold-mining facilities, 14 uranium deposits, four are iron ore and one each is titanium and zirconium.

And now in the industrial center of Akmola region, in a city where the mining and metallurgical industry is developing dynamically (JSC “GMK“ Kazakhaltyn”), processing and enrichment of uranium (Stepnogorsk Mining and Chemical Combine LLP), machine building (EPK Stepnogorsk JSC ) and science (research and production center LLP "Center for Biotechnology"), the memory of the great scientist will be immortalized.

This project is fully supported by the local authorities and the public of Stepnogorsk, and, undoubtedly, the bronze monument to Kanysh Satpayev, which will be installed on the station square, will be a worthy gift to the citizens for the City Day, the celebration of which is scheduled to the 9-th September.

A monument to Kanysh Satpayev was erected at the station square in Stepnogorsk. Azat Bayarlin, a member of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan, became the author and performer of this project. The sculpture is made of bronze.

As conceived by the sculptor, the famous scientist, the first academician of Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences, is depicted as young, full of strength, going towards new discoveries. For residents of the industrial town name Satpayev is of great importance. The appearance of another attraction in Stepnogorsk is considered to be a vivid example of the implementation of the program “Rouhani zagyru” Alima Zharmagambetova, granddaughter of K. Satpayev: - For us, this is a great happiness. I would like to express my gratitude for the memory that is preserved in industrial cities, in almost all cities: Satpayev, Zhezkazgan, Karaganda, Ekibastuz, and now there is a monument to Kanysh Imantayevich in Stepnogorsk. I think this is due to the fact that he always wanted the country to be developed, the country to be industrial.

“Undoubtedly, the monument will become the hallmark of Stepnogorsk. It was no coincidence that a decision was made to erect a monument to a person associated with this feature of a young, growing and aspiring city. I am sincerely glad and congratulate everyone on this special and significant event of all residents and guests of the city, ”said Tokhtar Aubakirov with words of congratulations.
