Event Plan: Music and Dance Competition for 9th Graders

1. Objective of the Event:

• To develop students' speaking and listening skills in English.

• To showcase students' musical and dancing abilities.

• To promote teamwork and creativity among the students.

2. Event Structure:

1. Introduction (5-10 minutes)

• Explanation of the Event: Briefly explain the goals and rules of the competition.

• Introduction to the Theme: Engage students in a conversation about "Music and Dance." Ask some questions related to the theme:

  • "What types of music do you like?"

  • "Do you know any famous dances?"

  • "What role does music play in your life?"

2. Singing Competition (10-15 minutes)

• Song Selection: Each team will choose a song in English and perform it. Each group will prepare one song and present it.

  • Suggested songs:

    • "Let it Be" (The Beatles)

    • "Shake It Off" (Taylor Swift)

    • "Happy" (Pharrell Williams)

    • "Can't Stop the Feeling!" (Justin Timberlake)

• Evaluation Criteria:

  • Correct pronunciation and lyrics delivery

  • Expression and emotional connection with the song

  • Teamwork and coordination

3. Dance Competition (10-15 minutes)

Dance Types: Students will perform a dance routine to an English-language song. Teams will choose a popular dance song and choreograph a short dance to go with it.

• Each team will choose a dance song in English and perform a choreographed routine.

• Encourage teams to be creative with their choreography, ensuring that the dance fits with the music and they perform together as a unit

• Suggested songs:

  • "Uptown Funk" (Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars)

  • "Thriller" (Michael Jackson)

  • "Dance Monkey" (Tones and I)

  • "Footloose" (Kenny Loggins)

• Evaluation Criteria:

  • Accuracy and synchronization of the dance movements

  • Creativity and style in the choreography

  • Teamwork and cohesion in the performance

4. Peer Evaluation (5-10 minutes)

• After each performance, groups will evaluate each other. This will help them develop constructive feedback skills and show respect for each other's efforts.

5. Conclusion and Awards (5-10 minutes)

• Summary and Acknowledgment: Announce the winners based on their performances in both singing and dancing.

• Awards: Present certificates or small prizes to the winning teams. Everyone should be congratulated for their participation, and creativity will be acknowledged.

• Announcing the Winners:

  • After all performances, announce the winners based on the judges' scores. Emphasize the importance of teamwork, creativity, and effort.

• Prizes and Recognition:

  • Present awards or certificates to the winning teams. You could also give out small prizes like music-themed items, such as headphones or gift cards.
