Pre-listening: Learners work in groups of two (mixed abilities) and fill in the gap with new vocabulary and write down unfamiliar words into their vocabularies. T monitors the activity and makes notes of common mistakes. Whole class feedback: learners sit in a circle and assess each other. FILL IN THE GAP Write the unfamiliar words into your vocabularies. speed skating, began, won, took place, organized, horse riding 1. Our town Oskemen ---- a big volleyball competition between Asian sportsmen. 2. The competition ---- at 10o’clock. 3. My little brother is very good at -----. 4. Winter Olympic Games ----- in Kazakhstan this year. 5. ----- is very good for your health. 6. Our students ----- in running competition last year. While-listening: While listening learners listen the text. The learners will find and tick new vocabulary from previous exercise. Then check these vocabularies with partner, in groups, in whole class. The learners give each other feedback. They give advice to each other. Olympic Games The first Olympic Games began in 1453 in Greece. These games were organized every four year. There were running, wrestling, horse riding and jumping. They are summer Olympic Games. The modern Olympic Games began again in 1896.There were no Olympic Games during the two World wars. Women started to participate in the Olympic Games in 1912. The first Winter Olympic Games took place in 1924. There are many modern Winter Olympic Games such as hockey, skiing, speed skating, figure skating and biathlon. Kazakh sportsmen are popular for their success in sport. Our boxers often win more Olympic medals: Vassily Jirov won the Gold medal in 1996 and Bakhtiar Artaev won the Gold medal in 2004. Kazakh cyclists are also well known: Alexander Vinokurov came first in the tour of Spain in 2006.We are proud of Kazakhstan sportsmen. Post-listening: The learner was given activity learning “Roundtable” Assessment criteria: For each correct answer 1 point. They should give at least 3 correct answer out of 5 Descriptors
T divides the learners by nominating A group learners to one group, B group learners to another group. Each group needs blank sheet of paper. The teacher poses 5 questions for each group. For A group learners give questions about the context of the text. Learners that are in B give general questions for analyzing the answer. Then learners in-group answer the questions individually and write to sheet of paper. The first, learner writes an idea on the paper and passes the paper to the next learner. Continue until no more ideas forthcoming or time is up. Groups discuss their ideas, summarize and synthesize the list of ideas, and one of learners to report out to the whole class. By analyzing A group learners give some support to B group learners. Questions:
Formative assessment “One question, one comment” Learners work in pairs. The first learner asks the difficult for him question the second learner answer the question and the second learner asks one question that is difficult for him. Then learners give each other one comment. T monitors the activity and asks why they`ve done the following activity (learners` ideas). Reinforce the importance to be healthy and keep fit. |
