The importance of knowing three languages.

I am a teacher of English of the 21-st century, though I was born in the 20-th century.

The main challenge for teachers today is to make lessons relevant to students’ everyday lives. I suppose that the main 21-st century teachers’ skills are the following: critical thinking, professional development, cooperation with colleagues of different schools, correct using traditional experiences in modern schools. Giving students an understanding of globalization will create effective future leaders because they will be capable of seeing things from a world view. Teachers don’t only teach their subjects. They develop their pupils' intellect, their attitudes to life and to other people. Multicultural education in the Republic of Kazakhstan is an important part of modern education, promotes the acquisition of knowledge about spiritual and cultural values and traditions of other peoples. Education is a vital step in the process of formation and development of multicultural, tolerant person who respects not only his, but also the culture of other Nations; the stage when it consciously and deliberately formed values, attitudes and priorities of the younger generation.

Language training associated with the knowledge of cultural, historical and social values of each language should be a means of understanding among peoples. The formation of language competence is of value in the enrichment of their own culture as a whole.

Modern language situation in Kazakhstan allows us to speak of the Trinity of languages as a significant factor in strengthening of public consent. The diversity of cultures and languages, their equal coexistence are the absolute property of our country, and the current language policy as ensures compliance with the language rights of all ethnic groups, and provides free choice of language for communication, education, implementation of creative needs. "Trinity of languages" — study of Kazakh as the state language, Russian as the language of interethnic communication, and English — as language of successful integration into the global economy.

I’m proud of my honorable profession. A lot depends on me, on my skills, experience and knowledge. I bring up the new educated generation knowing three languages. It is a noble task. I prepare the pupils for real life situations because, as our President said, the future of our country is in the hands of educated generation.

Love for children, an ability to communicate with them, understand and teach them foreign languages – these are the most important qualities of a good teacher nowadays.

For me being a teacher is a pleasure. It is good to know that there is a child that adores and loves you. And I'll be more satisfied when I'll know that they are learning three languages from me. I don’t like to be adorable from my students just because I'm their teacher, but I’d like them to value my hard creative work. I think that I have sufficient reasons to become an English teacher. I hope one day to be the most successful teacher of my dearest pupils.

That’s why we must be flexible in how we teach them foreign languages. I always remember the following sincere words of my loving teacher of English : “Что необходимо, чтобы быть хорошим учителем английского языка? Помнить всегда,что твоя задача научить иностранным языкам, а учить чему-то других можно только тогда, когда сам отлично знаешь свой предмет, когда твой кругозор значительно шире школьной программы. Не стоять на месте, никогда не считать, что ты уже все знаешь. Самое главное – учитель – новатор должен быть учителем, знающим иностранные языки.”

That’s why I try not to stop learning myself. Knowing three languages is one of the most important aspects of today’s teacher. I am teaching my pupils Kazakh, Russian and English for about 35 years. I wish my pupils knew three languages. It was my long – standing dream to teach them foreign languages. Knowing these languages they can talk to each other, live abroad and open their own business for blessing of our country’s flourish. To my mind my dream came true.

I’m happy because I know and speak my native language Kazakh.

I’m happy because I studied at Russian school, know and speak Russian very well.

I’m happy because I loved and studied English from childhood, I know English and teach it my pupils till nowadays.

Ushinsky said: ”Only a person can educate a person” Today it’s not so easy to be a teacher of English but it’s easy for me. Through teaching our pupils three languages we are learning ourselves.

That’s why I’m sure that the main skill for every teacher of the 21-st century is to be a person or a Teacher with the capital letter, knowing three languages, to be a lifelong learner and a global educator.
