Introduction

In today’s modern world, the English language plays an important role in many areas of life, especially in education, communication, and entertainment. One of the most popular ways teenagers are exposed to English is through movies and TV series. With the development of the internet and streaming platforms, English-language movies and series have become easily accessible to young people all over the world. Teenagers watch them not only for fun, but also as a part of their daily routine.

For many students, movies and series are more interesting than traditional learning materials. Unlike textbooks, movies show real-life situations and natural communication. Teenagers hear authentic English spoken by native speakers, including everyday expressions, emotions, and different accents. As a result, English becomes more understandable and enjoyable for learners. This makes movies and series a powerful informal learning tool.

The popularity of English movies and series among teenagers has a strong influence on their motivation to learn the language. Many students begin watching English content because it is entertaining, but over time they notice that their listening skills, vocabulary, and pronunciation improve. This increases their confidence and interest in English. Learning through movies does not feel like studying, which is especially important for teenagers.

The relevance of this research is connected to the growing use of media in teenagers’ lives. Understanding how English movies and series influence language learning helps teachers and students use this method more effectively. This research aims to study the role of English in movies and series, teenagers’ motivation to watch them, and their influence on English language skills.

The main goal of this project is to analyze how watching English movies and series affects teenagers’ English learning and to prove that this method can support school education.

Relevance of the Research

In the modern world, English has become an international language that is widely used in education, media, and communication. Teenagers spend a large amount of their free time watching movies and TV series, and most of this content is produced in English. Because of this, English movies and series have a strong influence on how students learn and perceive the language. However, this influence is not always fully used in the educational process.

The relevance of this research lies in the need to understand how English movies and series affect teenagers’ motivation and English language skills. Traditional teaching methods are sometimes not enough to keep students interested. Movies and series offer a modern and engaging way to support learning. By studying this topic, teachers and students can use English-language media more effectively as an additional learning tool. This research is important because it connects school education with teenagers’ real-life interests and modern media habits.

Literature Review

Many researchers, both local and international, have studied the influence of movies and TV series on foreign language learning, especially English. According to foreign studies, watching movies in the target language helps learners improve listening comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and pronunciation. Researchers note that authentic audiovisual materials expose students to real-life language use, which is often missing in traditional textbooks. English movies and series present natural speech, everyday expressions, and cultural context, making language learning more meaningful and effective.

International researchers also emphasize the role of motivation. Studies show that students who regularly watch English-language content are more motivated to learn the language because learning becomes enjoyable and less stressful. Movies and series create emotional involvement, which helps learners remember words and phrases better.

Local (domestic) studies mainly focus on the use of media resources in school education. Researchers point out that using movies and series in English lessons increases students’ interest and participation. They also highlight that audiovisual materials support different learning styles, especially for visual and auditory learners. However, some local researchers mention that movies should be carefully selected according to students’ age and language level.

In general, the reviewed literature proves that English movies and series are an effective additional tool for developing language skills and motivation when used correctly in the learning process.

Purpose of the Research

The main purpose of this research is to study the role and influence of English movies and TV series on teenagers’ English language learning. This project aims to analyze how watching English-language movies and series affects students’ motivation, interest, and development of different language skills such as listening, vocabulary, pronunciation, and speaking confidence. Another important purpose of the research is to identify the reasons why teenagers prefer English movies and series and how often they watch them.

In addition, this research seeks to prove that movies and series can be an effective supplementary learning tool alongside traditional English lessons. By conducting a practical survey among 9th grade students, the research aims to collect real data and analyze students’ opinions and experiences. The final goal is to show that learning English through movies and series can make the learning process more interesting, motivating, and effective for teenagers.

Objectives of the Research

The objectives of this research are to clearly identify and analyze the influence of English movies and TV series on teenagers’ English language learning. One of the main objectives is to study the role of English-language movies and series in teenagers’ daily lives and learning habits. Another objective is to analyze teenagers’ motivation to watch English content and understand the reasons behind their preferences.

The research also aims to examine how watching movies and series affects different English language skills, such as listening, vocabulary development, pronunciation, speaking confidence, reading, and writing. An important objective is to conduct a practical survey among 9th grade students to collect real data about their viewing habits and opinions. Finally, the research aims to compare traditional learning methods with learning through movies and series and to determine the effectiveness of using English movies and series as a supportive tool in English language education.

Creative Idea of the Research

The creative idea of this research is to combine English language learning with teenagers’ everyday interests, especially watching movies and TV series. Instead of learning English only through textbooks and exercises, this project suggests using English movies and series as an engaging and creative learning tool. The idea is to show that learning English can be both enjoyable and effective at the same time.

This research encourages students to learn English naturally by listening to real conversations, observing characters, and understanding emotions through movies. The creative approach lies in turning entertainment into education, where students learn new words, expressions, and pronunciation without feeling pressure. By using movies and series, students become active learners who are motivated by interest rather than obligation.

The project also promotes independent learning, as students can choose movies and series they enjoy. This creative idea helps make English learning more modern, interesting, and connected to real life.

Scientific Novelty of the Research

The scientific novelty of this research lies in the student’s practical discovery of how English movies and TV series influence English language learning among teenagers in real school conditions. Unlike many theoretical studies, this research is based on a survey personally conducted by a 9th grade student, which reflects the real opinions, habits, and experiences of teenagers of the same age. The student discovered that English movies and series are not only a source of entertainment, but also an effective informal learning tool that significantly supports school education.

One important novelty reminds in identifying which English skills improve the most through watching movies and series. According to the survey results, listening skills and vocabulary development showed the highest improvement compared to other skills. This finding is important because it proves that regular exposure to authentic English speech helps students understand real spoken language better than traditional classroom listening tasks alone.

Another new aspect of this research is the comparison between students who regularly watch English movies and those who do not. The student found that students who watch English content more often feel more confident when speaking English and show greater interest in English lessons. This practical evidence confirms the positive role of motivation in language learning.

Thus, the scientific novelty of this research is in proving, through real student-based data, that English movies and series can be used as an effective and motivating supplementary method for learning English at the secondary school level.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis of this research is that regular watching of English movies and TV series has a positive influence on teenagers’ English language learning. It is assumed that if 9th grade students watch movies and series in English frequently, their motivation to learn the language will increase. As a result, their listening skills, vocabulary, pronunciation, and speaking confidence will improve. The hypothesis also suggests that learning English through movies and series is more enjoyable and less stressful than traditional learning methods. Therefore, students who use English movies and series as an additional learning tool will show better interest and progress in English compared to students who do not watch English content regularly.

Research Methods

Several research methods were used in this project to study the influence of English movies and TV series on teenagers’ English language learning. The main method was a survey, which was conducted among 9th grade students. A questionnaire with clear and simple questions was prepared to collect information about students’ habits, motivation, and opinions related to watching English movies and series. This method helped to gather real and honest data.

Another method used was analysis, where the survey results were carefully studied and compared. The answers were grouped and analyzed to identify common trends and differences among students. The comparison method was also applied to compare students who regularly watch English movies with those who rarely or never watch them.

In addition, the observation method was used during English lessons to notice changes in students’ confidence and participation. These research methods helped to obtain reliable results and support the research hypothesis.

Research Part

1. The Role of English in Modern Movies and Series

Today, English plays a very important role in modern movies and TV series. For many teenagers, watching movies and series is not only a way to relax, but also a part of everyday life. Most popular films and series in the world are produced in English, and this is one of the main reasons why English has become so widespread and influential among young people. Teenagers hear English every day through screens, characters, and stories, and this has a strong effect on how they learn and understand the language.

First of all, English is the main language of the global film industry. Many famous movies and TV series are created in English and then watched in different countries around the world. Even when these movies are translated or dubbed into other languages, the original version is usually in English. Because of this, teenagers often prefer to watch movies in the original language to better understand the story and feel the emotions of the characters. Watching content in English helps students hear real, natural speech, not only the English from textbooks.

Another important role of English in movies and series is communication. Characters in English-language movies speak in a natural way, just like people do in real life. They use everyday expressions, informal language, jokes, and modern slang. This is very different from the English that students usually see in school books. When teenagers watch movies and series, they learn how people actually talk, how they greet each other, how they express feelings, and how they solve problems through conversation. This makes English feel more alive and interesting.

Modern movies and series also show different cultures, traditions, and lifestyles. Through English-language content, teenagers learn about life in other countries, especially English-speaking countries. They see how people study, work, spend free time, and communicate with friends and family. This helps students understand that English is not just a school subject, but a real language used by millions of people every day. It also helps teenagers become more open-minded and tolerant of other cultures.

Streaming platforms have also increased the role of English in movies and series. Today, teenagers can easily watch English content online at any time. Platforms offer a huge variety of genres such as drama, comedy, fantasy, science fiction, and documentaries. Teenagers can choose what they like and watch it in English with subtitles or without them. This easy access makes English a natural part of their daily routine. Many students watch at least one episode or short video in English every day without even thinking about it as studying.

Subtitles play an important role in understanding English movies and series. Many teenagers start watching with subtitles in their native language. This helps them understand the plot and the meaning of the dialogues. Later, they may switch to English subtitles. English subtitles help students connect spoken words with written forms. This improves reading skills and spelling. Some advanced students even watch movies without subtitles, which helps them develop listening skills and confidence in understanding English speech.

English in movies and series also helps teenagers improve their vocabulary. When students hear new words in context, they remember them more easily. For example, when a character uses a word in an emotional or funny situation, the word becomes memorable. Teenagers often remember phrases, expressions, and even whole sentences from movies. They may later use these expressions in speaking or writing. This kind of learning is more natural and enjoyable than memorizing word lists.

Pronunciation is another important area where movies and series play a big role. By listening to native speakers, teenagers learn correct pronunciation, intonation, and rhythm of English speech. They hear how words are connected in sentences and how sounds change in fast speech. Some students like to repeat phrases after characters or imitate their favorite actors. This helps them sound more natural when they speak English.

Motivation is one of the biggest advantages of English movies and series. Many students find traditional learning methods boring or difficult. However, watching a movie or series is fun and relaxing. Teenagers do not feel pressure when they learn English through entertainment. They enjoy the process, and this increases their interest in the language. When students are motivated, they learn faster and more effectively.

English movies and series also influence teenagers’ thinking and imagination. Interesting stories, strong characters, and emotional scenes make students think about different topics such as friendship, love, responsibility, and personal growth. Teenagers often discuss movies and series with their friends, share opinions, and express their thoughts. When they do this in English or using English words, it helps them practice the language in a meaningful way.

Social media has strengthened the role of English in movies and series even more. Teenagers watch clips, interviews, trailers, and behind-the-scenes videos in English. They follow actors and shows on social networks, read comments, and watch fan videos. Many popular quotes and memes are in English. To understand them, teenagers need at least basic English knowledge. This encourages them to learn more and improve their language skills.

Another important point is that English movies and series help teenagers prepare for the future. English is important for education, work, and travel. Many teenagers understand that knowing English will give them more opportunities in life. Watching movies and series in English is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to practice the language. It helps students feel more confident and less afraid of using English in real situations.

However, it is important to choose the right content. Not all movies and series are suitable for teenagers. Some may include difficult language, inappropriate scenes, or complex topics. Teachers and parents should help students choose age-appropriate and educational content. When used correctly, movies and series can become a powerful learning tool.

English plays a very important role in modern movies and series. For teenagers, English-language content is not only entertainment, but also a source of learning and inspiration. Movies and series help students improve vocabulary, listening, pronunciation, and motivation. They show real-life communication and different cultures, making English more interesting and meaningful. For a 9th grade student, watching movies and series in English can be a fun and effective way to learn the language and become more confident in using it.

Overall, English in modern movies and series connects education with real life. It helps teenagers understand that English is not just a subject at school, but a global language that opens doors to new knowledge, experiences, and opportunities.

2. Teenagers’ Motivation to Watch English Movies and Series

In today’s world, movies and TV series are one of the most popular forms of entertainment among teenagers. With the development of the internet and streaming platforms, young people can easily watch content from different countries. Most of the popular movies and series are in English, so teenagers are often surrounded by the English language even outside school. Many students watch English movies and series every day without thinking about them as a learning tool. However, this habit strongly influences their interest in English.

The motivation of teenagers to watch English movies and series is an important topic to study. Motivation explains why teenagers choose English content instead of movies in their native language. Some teenagers watch English movies for fun, some for education, and others because of social influence. Understanding these reasons helps teachers and students use movies and series more effectively in learning English.

The purpose of this research is to analyze teenagers’ motivation to watch English movies and series, to compare different types of motivation, and to show how this habit influences English learning.

What Is Motivation and Why Is It Important?

Motivation is the reason why people do something. For teenagers, motivation plays a very important role in learning and everyday activities. If students are motivated, they learn faster and with more interest. If they are not motivated, learning becomes difficult and boring.

There are two main types of motivation:

  • Intrinsic motivation – when a person does something because they enjoy it

  • Extrinsic motivation – when a person does something because of external reasons, such as grades, exams, or future goals

Teenagers’ motivation to watch English movies and series usually includes both types. Many students enjoy watching movies, so this is intrinsic motivation. At the same time, they know that English is important for their future, which is extrinsic motivation.

Entertainment as the Main Motivation

One of the strongest reasons why teenagers watch English movies and series is entertainment. Teenagers like interesting stories, exciting plots, humor, and strong characters. Many of the world’s most popular movies and series are produced in English, so students naturally choose English content.

English movies often have high-quality production, special effects, and famous actors. Teenagers enjoy watching superhero movies, fantasy series, romantic dramas, and comedies. These genres are especially popular among young people.

Compared to school textbooks, movies are more emotional and dynamic. Teenagers feel relaxed when watching movies, and they do not feel pressure like in lessons. Because of this, entertainment becomes a powerful motivation. Students watch English movies not because they must, but because they want to.

Result:
Entertainment motivates teenagers to watch English content regularly, which increases their exposure to the English language.

Desire to Understand the Original Language

Another important motivation is the desire to understand movies in their original language. Many teenagers believe that translations do not fully show the emotions, jokes, and meanings of dialogues. When movies are dubbed, some expressions and cultural details are lost.

Teenagers who watch movies in English feel proud when they understand the original speech. This gives them confidence and satisfaction. They feel that their English level is improving.

Comparison:

  • Watching movies in the native language → easy but less educational

  • Watching movies in English → more difficult but more useful

Students who choose English content often have stronger motivation to improve their language skills. They see watching movies as a challenge and a way to test themselves.

Result:
Teenagers who want to understand original English speech are more motivated to learn new words and improve listening skills.

Learning English in an Easy and Fun Way

Many teenagers do not like traditional learning methods such as grammar exercises and memorizing words. English movies and series offer a different way of learning. Teenagers learn English naturally, without realizing that they are studying.

Through movies and series, students learn:

  • New words and expressions

  • Everyday language and slang

  • Pronunciation and intonation

This type of learning feels easier and more enjoyable. Teenagers remember words better when they hear them in real situations. For example, when a character uses a phrase in an emotional scene, students remember it longer.

Evidence:
Students who watch English movies regularly often have better listening skills and larger vocabulary than those who only learn English at school.

Result:
The idea of learning English “without studying” strongly motivates teenagers to choose English movies and series.

Social Influence and Peer Pressure

Teenagers are strongly influenced by their friends and social environment. Many popular movies and series are discussed at school, on social media, and in online communities. Teenagers want to be part of these conversations.

If a popular series is in English, teenagers feel motivated to watch it to:

  • Talk about it with friends

  • Understand jokes, memes, and quotes

  • Feel included in social groups

Sometimes teenagers start watching English series because “everyone is watching it.” This is a form of extrinsic motivation, but it still helps them practice English.

Comparison:

  • Teenagers who watch English content → more active in discussions

  • Teenagers who do not → may feel left out

Result:
Social influence encourages teenagers to watch English movies and series more often.

Influence of Social Media and the Internet

Social media plays a huge role in motivating teenagers to watch English movies and series. Trailers, short clips, interviews, and fan videos are usually in English. Teenagers see this content every day on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

Many teenagers follow actors, directors, and series pages. They read comments and watch videos in English. Even if they do not understand everything, they try to guess the meaning.

This constant exposure to English creates curiosity and interest. Teenagers want to improve their English to understand more content.

Result:
The internet and social media increase teenagers’ motivation to watch English movies and improve their language skills.

Motivation Related to Future Goals

Some teenagers are motivated by future plans. They understand that English is important for:

  • Higher education

  • Studying abroad

  • Good jobs

  • Traveling

Watching English movies and series helps them prepare for the future. Teenagers see it as an investment in themselves.

Comparison:

  • Short-term motivation → entertainment

  • Long-term motivation → future success

Teenagers with strong future goals usually watch English content more seriously. They may choose movies with subtitles, pause and repeat scenes, or write down new words.

Result:
Future-oriented motivation makes teenagers more disciplined and focused when watching English content.

Analysis of Teenagers’ Motivation

After analyzing different motivations, it is clear that teenagers usually have more than one reason to watch English movies and series. Entertainment is often the first motivation, but learning, social influence, and future goals also play important roles.

Main motivations:

  1. Fun and entertainment

  2. Understanding original content

  3. Easy language learning

  4. Social communication

  5. Future opportunities

Teenagers who combine several motivations benefit the most from watching English content.

The research shows that teenagers’ motivation to watch English movies and series is strong and varied. Most teenagers start watching English content for fun, but over time they realize its educational value.

Main results:

  • Motivation increases interest in English

  • Regular watching improves listening and vocabulary

  • Teenagers become more confident in English

  • Learning becomes more enjoyable

In conclusion, teenagers’ motivation to watch English movies and series plays an important role in English learning. When motivation is high, students learn naturally and effectively. Movies and series should not replace school education, but they are a very useful additional tool. For 9th grade students, watching English movies and series can be both enjoyable and educational, helping them succeed in learning English and preparing for the future.

3. The Influence of Movies and Series on English Language Skills

In modern society, movies and TV series are an important part of teenagers’ lives. Many students spend their free time watching films or episodes of popular series. Most of this content is produced in English, which means teenagers are often exposed to the English language outside the classroom. Because of this, movies and series have a strong influence on how students learn and use English.

This research focuses on how watching English movies and series influences different English language skills such as listening, vocabulary, pronunciation, speaking, reading, and even writing. For many teenagers, movies and series are not just entertainment but also an informal way of learning English. The language in movies is real, natural, and emotional, which makes it easier to understand and remember.

The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of movies and series on English language skills, compare this method with traditional learning, give examples as evidence, and show the results of such learning for 9th grade students.

Listening Skills and Movies

Listening is one of the most important skills in learning English, and movies and series have a very strong influence on it. When teenagers watch English content, they listen to native speakers talking in real-life situations. This helps them get used to the natural speed of speech.

In school lessons, listening exercises are often short and clear. Speakers talk slowly and pronounce words carefully. In movies, however, people speak faster, use emotions, and sometimes speak unclearly. At first, this can be difficult for students, but over time their listening skills improve.

Analysis:
Students who regularly watch English movies understand spoken English better than students who only listen to audio materials in class.

Comparison:

  • Classroom listening → controlled and slow

  • Movie listening → natural and realistic

Result:
Movies help students become more confident listeners and prepare them for real communication.

Vocabulary Development through Movies and Series

Vocabulary is another skill that strongly improves through watching movies and series. Teenagers hear new words and expressions in context. Instead of memorizing words from a list, they see how words are used in real situations.

For example, students often learn:

  • Everyday expressions

  • Slang and informal language

  • Phrasal verbs

  • Emotional phrases

When a word is connected to a character or scene, it becomes easier to remember. Teenagers often repeat favorite lines or remember funny phrases from movies.

Evidence:
Many students use words they learned from movies in their speaking and writing tasks.

Comparison:

  • Textbook vocabulary → formal and limited

  • Movie vocabulary → rich and practical

Result:
Movies and series help students build a larger and more natural vocabulary.

Pronunciation and Intonation Improvement

Pronunciation is often difficult for English learners. Movies and series help teenagers hear correct pronunciation directly from native speakers. Students learn how words sound in real speech, not only how they are written.

Teenagers also learn:

  • Word stress

  • Sentence intonation

  • Connected speech

Some students like to repeat phrases after characters or imitate actors. This is a very effective way to improve pronunciation. It also helps students sound more confident when speaking English.

Analysis:
Students who imitate movie characters often have clearer pronunciation.

Comparison:

  • Teacher pronunciation → educational but limited

  • Movie pronunciation → natural and varied

Result:
Movies improve pronunciation and help students speak more naturally.

Speaking Skills and Confidence

Watching movies and series does not directly teach students how to speak, but it strongly influences speaking confidence. Teenagers hear how dialogues are built and how people react in conversations.

Movies show:

  • How to start a conversation

  • How to express emotions

  • How to agree or disagree

Students who watch English movies often feel less afraid of speaking English. They already know many phrases and expressions, so they feel more prepared.

Evidence:
Teenagers who watch English content are usually more active in speaking activities at school.

Result:
Movies and series help students feel confident and motivated to speak English.

Reading Skills and Subtitles

Subtitles play an important role in learning English through movies. Many students start with subtitles in their native language. Later, they switch to English subtitles.

English subtitles help students:

  • Connect spoken and written forms

  • Improve spelling

  • Read faster

Reading subtitles while listening improves both listening and reading skills at the same time.

Comparison:

  • No subtitles → difficult for beginners

  • English subtitles → helpful and educational

Result:
Subtitles support reading development and understanding.

Writing Skills and Language Awareness

Movies and series influence writing skills indirectly. Teenagers learn how sentences are structured and how ideas are expressed. They see examples of informal and semi-formal language.

Students may use:

  • Movie phrases in essays

  • Learned expressions in stories

  • Better sentence structure

Analysis:
Students who watch English movies often write more naturally and creatively.

Result:
Movies help improve writing style and language awareness.

Comparison with Traditional Learning Methods

Traditional English learning focuses on grammar, textbooks, and exercises. Movies offer a different approach.

Traditional learning:

  • Focus on rules

  • Less emotional

  • Sometimes boring

Learning through movies:

  • Focus on real language

  • Emotional and interesting

  • Motivating

Comparison result: The best results appear when both methods are combined.

Evidence from Students’ Experience

Many students say that after watching English movies:

  • They understand English better

  • They learn words faster

  • They enjoy English lessons more

Teachers also notice that such students are more confident.

Overall Analysis and Results

The influence of movies and series on English language skills is mostly positive.

Main results:

  • Listening improves the most

  • Vocabulary grows naturally

  • Pronunciation becomes clearer

  • Confidence increases

However, movies should be used wisely. They should support, not replace, school learning.

Practical Part

1. Survey among Teenagers

In this practical part of my project, I conducted a survey among teenagers to find out how English movies and TV series influence their interest in learning English. This survey was done by me personally, and all the results are based on real answers from students. The practical work helped me understand how often teenagers watch English movies and series, why they choose English content, and how it affects their English language skills.

The reason I chose a survey as a practical method is because it allows students to express their real opinions. Teenagers often watch movies and series every day, so their answers can give clear and honest information. This practical work supports the theoretical parts of my project and helps prove my hypothesis.

The aim of the practical work is to analyze teenagers’ habits and opinions about watching English movies and series and to find out how this habit influences English learning.

Description of the Survey

Participants

The survey was conducted among 20 students of the 9th grade. All participants study English as a foreign language at school. The students are between 14 and 15 years old. Both boys and girls took part in the survey. The survey was anonymous, so students could answer honestly without fear.

Method

I used a questionnaire method. The questionnaire consisted of 10 simple questions written in clear language. The questions were about watching English movies and series, frequency, motivation, subtitles, and language skills.

The survey was conducted during free time at school. Students answered the questions individually. After collecting the questionnaires, I analyzed the answers and made conclusions.

Survey Questions

The questionnaire included the following questions:

  1. Do you watch movies or TV series in English?

  2. How often do you watch English movies or series?

  3. What type of content do you prefer? (movies / series / both)

  4. Do you use subtitles when watching English content?

  5. What subtitles do you usually use? (native language / English / no subtitles)

  6. Why do you watch movies or series in English?

  7. Do you think watching English movies helps you learn English?

  8. Which English skills improve the most?

  9. Do you feel more confident in English after watching movies or series?

  10. Would you recommend watching English movies to other students?

Survey Results

Conclusion and Results

In conclusion, this research clearly shows that English movies and TV series have a positive influence on teenagers’ English language learning. The study confirmed that watching English-language movies and series is not only a popular form of entertainment, but also an effective supplementary learning tool for 9th grade students. The results of both the theoretical analysis and the practical survey support the research hypothesis.

The survey results demonstrated that most teenagers regularly watch English movies and series and enjoy doing so. One of the most important findings is that students who watch English content frequently show better listening skills and have a richer vocabulary. This happens because they are constantly exposed to natural English speech, everyday expressions, and real communication situations. In addition, many students reported improved pronunciation and greater speaking confidence, as they became more familiar with how English sounds in real life.

Another significant result is the increase in students’ motivation to learn English. Watching movies and series makes learning more interesting and less stressful compared to traditional methods. Teenagers feel more confident and positive about English lessons, which leads to better participation and engagement in class. The research also showed that students who use English subtitles benefit more than those who watch with subtitles in their native language.

Overall, the research proves that English movies and series can successfully support traditional English teaching when used wisely. They should not replace textbooks and lessons, but they can make learning more effective, enjoyable, and meaningful. Therefore, English movies and series are a valuable educational resource for improving teenagers’ English language skills and motivation.

Recommendations

Based on the results of this research, several recommendations can be made for students, teachers, and parents to use English movies and TV series more effectively in the learning process. First of all, students are encouraged to watch English movies and series regularly, but in a purposeful way. It is recommended to start with simple and interesting content and gradually move to more complex movies as language skills improve. Using English subtitles is highly recommended, especially for 9th grade students, because subtitles help connect spoken and written language and improve listening and reading skills.

For teachers, it is advisable to include short movie clips or episodes in English lessons. Teachers can use movies as a tool for teaching vocabulary, pronunciation, and speaking activities. For example, students can discuss characters, repeat dialogues, or write short reviews. This makes lessons more engaging and helps students apply language in real contexts.

Parents also play an important role. They should encourage their children to watch age-appropriate English content and support their interest in learning English through movies. Creating a positive learning environment at home can increase motivation.

Finally, schools should support media-based learning by providing access to educational platforms and encouraging creative projects. When used correctly, English movies and series can greatly enhance students’ language development and confidence.
