2. Comment on the following.

1. …and knowing how rapidly they were being destroyed I was afraid that I would never meet one of the lords of Ocean.

Brush up: Perfect Passive Voice

Perfect Passive – страдательный залог в совершенных временах

В группе Perfect формы страдательного залога имеют времена Present Perfect, Past Perfect и Future Perfect.

Present Perfect Passive 

• I am not going to Peter’s party as I haven’t been invited – Я не пойду на вечеринку к Питеру, потому что меня не пригласили

• The work has just been finished —  Работа была только что завершена

• Have the flowers been watered today? – Цветы сегодня поливали? 

Past Perfect Passive

• When we came home dinner had not been cooked yet. – Когда мы пришли домой, обед был еще не готов.

• By evening all preparations for the trip had been finished. К вечеру все приготовления к поездке были завершены.

• Had the essay been written by the time he returned? – Было ли сочинение написано к тому времени, как он вернулся?

Future Perfect Passive

• By the time you return the office won’t have been cleaned yet. – К тому времени как ты придешь, офис еще не будет убран

• Will everything have been prepared by 5 p.m.?  — Будет ли все приготовлено к 5 часам?

• By the beginning of the court session all the documents will have been looked through – К моменту начала судебного заседания, все документы будут просмотрены

VI Phrasal verbs

1. turn up - 1) чаще всего: появляться (приходить, приезжать); 2) найтись, обнаружиться; оказаться, подвернуться, появиться; и др.
   2. give up – quit. - сдаться, сдаваться, отступить(ся), отказаться
   3. make up - invent, lie about something- 1) выдумывать, придумывать, сочинять, создавать (рассказ, песню и т.п.); 2) восполнять, возмещать, компенсировать (потерянное время, силы, деньги, пропущенные уроки и т.п.); а) ~ for возмещать, компенсировать что-л./за что-л.; 3) гримировать(ся), накладывать косметику
   4. Bring up -
   5. Come up - 1) появляться, возникать; и в перен. смысле тоже; 2) подниматься (вверх); 3) подходить, приближаться, приезжать; 4) выступать против и др.
