SUGGESTED GAMEPLAY AND
VOCABULARY PRACTICE
GUIDELINES
Shuffle the deck of vocabulary cards and deal 5 cards to each player.
Place the remaining cards face down to form the draw pile.
Turn the top card of the draw pile over and place it next to the draw pile to
begin the discard pile.

The first player starts by placing a card from their hand onto the discard pile. The
card must either match the color or number on the top card of the discard pile.
If a player cannot play a card, they must draw one card from the draw pile. If the
drawn card can be played, the player may play it immediately. Otherwise, the
player's turn ends.
The first player to empty their hand of cards wins the game.

Before playing a card, each player must say a sentence that uses the vocabulary
item on the card they are playing. For example, if a player wants to play a card with
the word "dog" on it, they must say a sentence like "The dog barked loudly."
If a player forgets to say a sentence or uses the vocabulary item incorrectly in their
sentence, they must draw one additional card from the draw pile as a penalty.

Players can be required to use a specific grammatical structure in their sentences.
For example, a present perfect verb tense or adjectives in their sentences.
To make the game more competitive, players could be allowed to challenge each
other's sentences if they think a grammar mistake was made. If the challenge is
successful, the player who made the mistake must draw an additional card as a
penalty. If the challenge is unsuccessful, the player who made the challenge must
draw an additional card as a penalty.

ACTION CARDS
draw two card
Skip card
When a player plays the Draw Two card, the next player is
required to draw two cards and miss their turn. It can only be
played on a card of the same color or on another Draw Two card.
If the next player has a Draw Two card too, they can play it and
the next player has to draw 4 cards. If that player has another
Draw Two card, the same rule applies, and so on. If revealed at
the start of the game, the first player draws two cards and is
skipped.
When a player plays the Skip card, the following player's turn is
skipped. It can only be played on a card of the same color or on
another Skip card. If revealed at the beginning of the game, the
first player, located to the left of the dealer, loses their turn.
Backward Card
This card changes de direction of the game. If the game is
moving in a clockwise direction, change it to move
counterclockwise, or vice versa. It can only be played on a card of
the same color or on another Backward card. If revealed at the
beginning of the game, the dealer takes the first turn, and the
player to the right of the dealer goes next (typically it would be the
player to the left of the dealer).
wild card
This versatile card represents all four colors and can be played on
any card. The player must declare which color it represents for the
next player. It can be played even if there are other playable cards
available. If revealed at the beginning of the game, the first player
chooses the color to continue play.

ACTION CARDS
Switch decks
This card possesses great strength as it grants you the ability to
exchange your hand with any player of your choosing. Similar to
a Wild card, it retains the same characteristics, meaning you
have the option to play it or not during any of your turns and can
also select the color to be played. Ideally, you would likely opt to
swap your cards with the player who possesses the fewest
cards. As a potent Action card, only one is included in each
deck. If revealed at the beginning of the game, the starting
player has the privilege to both choose the color and swap their
hand with another individual. Once you play this card and
exchange your hand with another player, your turn concludes,
and you are unable to immediately play any cards until your next
turn arrives.
This card functions like the Wild card, but the next player is also
required to draw four cards and miss their turn. To play this card,
you must have no other alternative cards that match the color of
the previously played card. Playing this card unlawfully may
prompt the other player to challenge you to reveal your hand. If
found guilty, you need to draw four cards. If not, the challenger
must draw six cards instead. If the next player has a Pick 4 card
too, they can play it and the next player has to draw 8 cards. If the
next player has another Pick 4 card, the same rule applies, and so
on. If revealed at the start of the game, return this card to the
Draw pile, shuffle, and reveal a new card.
