- What’s today’s our theme? Today we are talking about Abai Kunanbaiuly. The theme of our lesson is “Biography of a writer Abai Kunanbaiuly. Open your copybook write down today’s date and theme.

I am going to divided pupils into four groups related to Abai’s poems for the seasons. You have take one picture.
Ok, you choose a picture and if you have see a winter please, and change your place.

I’ll give you some information about Abai. This year we celebrate the 175^th anniversary since the birth of the great Kazakh poet, philosopher, composer and educator Abai Kunanbayuly. Abai became a symbol of friendship and brotherhood between the Russian and Kazakh cultures.

Pupils, now we are going to watch a video. Look at the video. Then work with groups.

Abai Kunanbayev

Abai was a great Kazakh poet, musician and writer. He was born in Abai settlement near the city of Semei. He was a well known Kazakh poet, a great thinker, composer, philosopher, the founder of written Kazakh literature, and its first classic.His father Kunanbai was very strict. But his mother Ulzhan and grandmother Zere were kind, warm-hearted and good-natured people. They were good story-tellers, too. They told little Abai a lot of interesting stories, tales and legends of Kazakh people.
Abai went to a religious school at the age of 9. But when he was 13 he began to learn Russian and entered the Russian school in Semei. He liked to read books of great Russian poets and writers: Pushkin, Lermontov, Krylov. Later Abai translated their works into Kazakh and wrote a lot of masterpieces of literature. His poetry is very popular nowadays. The Words of Abai have been translated into many foreign languages. Abai Kunanbaev died in 1904. Kazakh people are proud of their great poet. He is well-known all over the world

Now, I’ll give you task work with groups. Now, you are going to read the text. First group read Abai’s family, second groups Abai’s studied school, third group Abai’s works and the last group Abai’s studied school I‘ll give you 3 minutes.

Next task, work with cards. I’ll give you cards. Read the statements, choose 5 necessary sentences to tell about Abai Kunanbaev. I’ll give you 2 minutes.
• He died in 1904.
• He died in 1961, his stories and novels became very popular among young people.
• He was born in 1845.
• Some time later he was moved to the administrative department of Orynbor region as a translator.
• Being influenced by his mother he was fond of books and poetry.
• He had been elabourating the New Kazakh Alphabet for 3 years.
• He finished the muslim religious school (medresse). Also he studied at Russian school and started writing poems there.
• He translated many works of Pushkin, Lermontov, Gothe, Tolstoi, Saltykov – Schedrin and other poets and writers from Russian into Kazakh.
• In 1928 he graduated from Leningrad University, where he studied at the faculty of History and Philology.
• His first work “Enlik-Kebek” was written in 1917, it was the beginning of the great creative works.
