To introduce the topic and predict the content of a text Direct Ss’ attention to the pictures and elicit their guesses to the questions in the rubric. Play the recording. Ss listen and follow the text in their books and find out the answers.
To introduce with new words: educated, rural, military, leader, battle, several, include, actor, actress, charity, the United Nations, poor, country. Background information Bauyrzhan Momyshuly was born in Mynbulak village in Zhambyl region in 1910. He was very educated.Bauyrzhan began working as a rural policeman, but after a few years he joined the army and became a military leader. Anjelina Jolie was born in 1975 in Los Angelos. Her father is called Jon Voight and he is a famous actor. In 1991, Angelina became an actress too and acted in many films. |

To read for specific information Allow Ss some time to read the text and answer the questions. Ask Ss to use the Word List to look up the meanings of the words in the Check these words box, then check Ss’ answers. To write exercise I love my country because I am proud of our history. I hate wars because people die. I want to work for a charity to help people in need. I want to help poor people because I want them to have a better life. To personalise the topic Explain the task and give Ss time to complete the sentences. Ss tell their partners. Elicit a variety of answers from Ss around the class to check their answers. To write about a hero from your country Explain the task. Ask Ss to look up information on the Internet or in encyclopaedias or other reference books about a hero from their country and write a short text either in class or as HW. Remind Ss to include all the points in the rubric. |
