The history of the inscriptions on clothes Inscriptions on clothes appeared many centuries ago. The earliest ones came to us from ancient Greece. There were embroideries on the belts that told about the names of their ancient owners, there were some names on jewelry. On the portraits of Italian and German painters of 15th and 16th centuries we see labels that were intertwined into the pattern of men's shirts, into corsages of women`s dresses, where Latin mottos of noble families or the names of the owners of these portraits or dresses were written on them. Inscriptions of the very provocative nature were always met on female garters. Inscriptions which were a part of the ornament were in fashion. For example, at the beginning of the second millennium Gothic prints were used in embroidery. The pelerines of King Otto are very famous, they are in the museum of Bolbergue in Germany. There are amazing things with Gothic or Roman letters as a part of the ornament of ancient embroideries in the store of the old cathedral.

Functions of the inscriptions The inscriptions are very different. They can tell us a lot about a person, in particular, and that this person does not understand what is written on his clothes. Inscriptions change with person’s age. In childhood they are just some funny phrases, in youth inscriptions contain all sorts of phrases: the number of a football team or the name of the street where they live. Adults, realizing that something can be written not for their age or something banal, try to choose clothes without labels. It is a right decision, as opened to teens who just look at the beautiful style and funny letters .

The methodology of the study The inscription on the clothes is not just a decorative element; it is the means of communication, which has a variety of semantic content. All labels on clothing (shirts) can be divided into several semantic groups according to their contents. 1. The name of the brand. A symbolism of sportswear as «Nike», «Adidas», «Puma», «Reebok», and so on is popular among young people. T-shirts of popular brands show the well-being of the owners. 2. Titles of the music bands or just directions in music, the names of sports teams. You can often find T-shirts with slogans: «Metallica», «Linkin Park», «Green Day», «Punk you», «Madonna for you», «All you need is rock-n-roll», «Manchester United». Seeing the man with such an inscription on the clothes, we can immediately conclude that he’s a fan of a band, or a sports fan, that is, we get some information about him, about his tastes and preferences. This is one of the easiest ways to meet people, or, on the contrary, people with opposing views.

The results of the students’ interrogation We have made our study by the next way: we have found at our school students, dressed in T-shirts, jeans, sweaters, jeans, caps, with English inscriptions. We have photographed the most interesting inscriptions and asked some questions: -How old are you? - Do you know the sense of the inscription on your clothes or not - Why have you bought this thing? - What marks have you got? 3) we have translated the inscriptions into Russian and entered the data into the table According to the questionnaires of the participants of the survey I found out a great number of inscriptions. I would like you to become familiar with both most common and most outstanding ones.

Analysis of the collected material In the course of my research work I came to the conclusion, that the greatest part of our respondents has clothes with inscriptions on them. We interviewed 45 people all in all, and it turned out that 40 people have clothes with inscriptions in their wardrobes and only 5 people never buy them (they are 88% and 12% accordingly). From all respondents about 57% of pupils know the meaning of the inscriptions which they have on their clothes; also they noted that they usually pay attention to an inscription before the purchase of things. Other 43% found it difficult to translate the inscriptions. 88% 40% 48% 57% wear clothes with Eng- lish inscriptions boys girls know the translation of inscriptions

Conclusion Undoubtedly, each person has a right to wear what he or she likes. However, it seems abnormal that the majority of people who prefer inscriptions on the clothes, do not know the meaning of the words they have on clothes. Nowadays English is everywhere: on goods and signboards of shops, on the electrical goods, clothes, on the Internet. It is taught at schools, universities, specialized courses. But how is it easier and faster to learn English? English inscriptions can be an express way that helps to enrich the students’ vocabulary. Most teens do not pay much attention to the inscriptions on their clothes, but some of them can contain indecent and offensive meaning, grammatical and spelling mistakes. Sometimes they can contain a set of meaningless words and phrases, sometimes indecent words, but sometimes a phrase filled with good humor. It is important to be responsible for the information that we have on our clothes, we become the carrier of it to the masses, and it is stupid to expect that others do not know a foreign language and do not understand what is written on your clothes.

Recommendation 1) Translate the English-language inscription before you get clothes. Do not choose clothing with inscriptions that may discredit you in the eyes of the public and friends. 2) If you are a competent native speaker of your language, you should respect another language, so do not choose clothes with spelling or grammatical errors. 3) A cultured person will not allow himself to go in a T-shirt with a meaningless set of words. 4) Follow the "dress code" to attend different types of social events and institutions. Perhaps your clothing with the inscription will not be in harmony with the decor. 5) You are not a banner ad! Do not wear clothing with advertising. Unless of course this is part of your job responsibilities. 6) If your inscriptions evoke a kind smile, enhance your mood or remind you of the importance of your existence, then use the whole spectrum of your imagination to choose an idea! Let your clothes become an outward manifestation of your inner wealth! Indeed, everything should be wonderful in a person: face, clothing, soul, and thoughts ...
