The land of Kazakhstan is rich in soils. The greater part of the forest-steppe zone is chernozem. The desert of Kazakhstan is an arid area. There isn’t much rainfalls and the temperature in summer is high. The air is extremely dry. Mountains rise from the steppes in the south and southeast of Kazakhstan. The Lake Balkhash, one of the largest lakes in the world, consists of fresh water, the other half of the lake is salt water.
