One of the most famous stories from the Canterbury Tales collection is the story of the Pardoner's Tale .

 This story took place at the time when the Plague It was a long time ago in the 14th century. One fine April evening some people met at an inn in London. These people wanted to go to the town of Canter bury to worship Thomas Becket, a saint and a martyr. Thomas Becket, also known as Saint Thomas of Canterbury, was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 until his murder in 1170.

 It was a long journey. To make it shorter they thought of telling stories on their way. Such is the contents of the book written in the 14th century by the greatest writer of that time Geoffrey Chaucer (1340—1400). The book is called The Canterbury Tales. It was written 600 years ago.

 The Canterbury Tales was written in verse but rewrtiiten in prose and translated into many languages so that many people from different countries could enjoy the book and know its author. Here is the most famous story «Three young men, death and a bag of gold».

Why is the Pardoner's tale a good story?  The Pardoner's Tale is an example, a type of story often used by preachers to  emphasize a moral point to their audience . The Pardoner has told us in his Prologue that his main theme —“Greed is the root of all evil”—never changes  Death is personified as a character, and he is symbolic that death is predictable and inevitable. The moral is about  being greedy and corrupt . People should by wary of other's greed

In an allegorical reading of the Pardoner's Tale, where characters represent abstract concepts instead of real people, the Three Rioters represent  greed . They salivate at the sight of the eight bushels of gold and abandon any other goals or consideration like that pact of sworn brotherhood to kill Death.

 Three rake, sitting in a tavern, boasted that they were not afraid of the Plague and went to look for her in order to finish her off. On the way, they met an old man and asked him how they could find death. The elder pointed them to a tree. They found a bag of gold under a tree. The story goes on to say that three friends betrayed each other after finding gold, and three of them died .

 Canterbury tales are generally considered unfinished at the end of Chaucer's life. On the way to and from St. Thomas Beckett Temple (a total of about 120 stories). Although incomplete, The Canterbury Tales is revered as one of the most important works in English literature .
