Reading
Text: Organic and Non-Organic
Worlds
The world around us
can be divided into two broad categories: the organic and
non-organic worlds.
The organic world encompasses all living
organisms, such as plants, animals, and humans. Organic matter is
typically characterized by the presence of carbon and is often
found in things that grow, reproduce, and respond to their
environment. Examples of organic materials include wood, food, and
animal tissues.
On the other hand,
the non-organic
world includes everything that
does not originate from living organisms. This category encompasses
rocks, minerals, metals, and synthetic materials like plastic.
Non-organic materials are usually more stable over time, as they do
not decay like organic materials. For example, a rock or metal
object can last for thousands of years without significant change,
while a plant or animal decays after
death.
Understanding the differences between
organic and non-organic worlds is essential for fields such as
biology, chemistry, and environmental science. In environmental
science, for example, organic matter is studied in relation to its
impact on ecosystems and its role in the carbon
cycle.
