1. Warm-up: Running dictation T. divides Ss into 2 teams and gives instructions: Ss of every team take turns to go to the front of the classroom and take a sentence card. They are given 40 – 60 sec to memorize the sentence (depending on the ss level and the sentence length). After the time is up, Ss run to their teams and try to write (reproduce) the sentence on the paper, while another Ss goes for the second sentence. After all the sentences have been written, Ss are given 1 point for each correct ss 1 plus 1 additional for speed (the team that has finished first). The winners may be given 1 add. FA point.
2. Grammar: Questions in Past Continuous 1) Ss work in teams. T. presents Slide 5, hands out Team work questions worksheets and gives instructions: Ss should analyze the examples in the Slide, analyze the way the question had been constructed and turn sentences in their Worksheets into questions. T. organizes peer-check (Slide 6) and provides feedback. 2) T. demonstrates Slide 7; with the rule and encourages Ss to explain it, give examples. Provides support and correction, when necessary. Ss may take notes. 3) Practice: T. demonstrates Slides 8-11 and provides practice through the task: Ss should make questions in PCT. T. organizes self-check; provides feedback and support when necessary.

Team work (practice): Memory Challenge game T. hands out Memory challenge team 1, 2 pictures, and Vocabulary cards for memory challengeand gives instructions: 1) Ss will be given 4 minutes to look at the pictures to memorize as much of it as they can. They are not allowed to write anything. T. may recommend divide the parts of the pictures between students to make the task easier, 2) When the time is over, Ss exchange the papers. They now have 7 minutes to make up 5 questions based on the picture for their rivals to answer. They use the Vocabulary cards, Ss must be in the Past Continuous Tense. 3) After the time is up, the teams ask each other the questions, f.e. - Who was reading a book? - Sandy was reading a book! Both questions and answers must be in Past Cont. Ss are given 1 point for each grammaticallycorrect question, and one for each correct answer. Total: 10 points. Event if the answer isn’t correct acc. to the picture, but still correct grammatically, the team gets the point – not memory abilities, but their speaking is assessed. |
