Presentation Speech for the Author’s Program “English Excellence”
It is a great honor for me to present my author’s program titled
English Excellence: Olympiad Preparation for Gifted Students”
Background and Relevance
In today’s globalized world, strong language skills—especially in English—are a powerful tool for academic and professional success. Gifted students require not only general English proficiency but also advanced academic language and critical thinking skills.
The Republican English Language Olympiad, organized by the Republican Scientific-Practical Center “Daryn”, challenges students to analyze, interpret, and produce complex texts under time constraints. This program was developed to meet these demands by providing high-level, targeted instruction.
Purpose of the Program
The main purpose of the program is to equip students from grades 9 to 11 with the linguistic, cognitive, and psychological skills necessary to participate in English Olympiads** at a competitive level. The program helps them move beyond general English to academic excellence.
Program Objectives
The program aims to:
* Strengthen grammatical accuracy and expand vocabulary;
* Develop critical reading and listening skills;
* Improve coherent, persuasive writing techniques;
* Build confidence in public speaking and debate;
* Prepare students mentally and linguistically for Olympiad conditions.
The Structure of the Program
The curriculum is organized into four content-based modules, totaling 34 hours:
1. Mastering Language Structures – 8 hours
(Advanced grammar, phrasal verbs, idioms)
2. Reading Between the Lines – 9 hours
(Critical reading, inference, tone and bias detection)
3. Writing with Impact – 9 hours
(Essay writing, rhetorical strategies, thesis development)
4. Speak Out: Debating and Discussion Skills – 8 hours
(Public speaking, structured debate, cultural discussions)
Each module follows a logical progression from language input to output, including active practice, feedback, and Olympiad-style tasks.
Innovative Aspects and Theoretical Foundations
The program integrates:
Bloom’s Taxonomy to guide higher-order thinking;
Communicative Competence Theory for real-life communication;
Task-Based Learning and authentic assessment;
Metacognitive strategies to promote learner autonomy.
It is based on global standards and international best practices in gifted education and academic English instruction.
Expected Results
After completing the program, students will be able to:
Demonstrate B2+ fluency across all language skills;
Write structured, persuasive essays and arguments;
Engage in high-level debate and public speaking;
Analyze academic texts and global issues critically;
Perform confidently and effectively in English Olympiads.
Conclusion
To conclude, “English Excellence” is not just a language course—it is a carefully designed preparation platform for talented students who strive for academic success and intellectual challenge. It bridges the gap between school-level English and the demands of national and international Olympiads.
I hope this program can serve as a model for promoting linguistic excellence and academic ambition among gifted learners.
