In most
universities, there are more male students than female students in
science courses. What is the reason for this? What could be done to
balance out the numbers?
Today it is not a big deal if females are in science courses.
Though, looking at what the world has discovered or invented it is
obvious that males excel in the field of science better than
females. However, by encouraging interest in science subjects in
primary school, it is expected that women will be able to make the
same contribution as men.
To
start with, since the earliest times, men have been engaged in
engineering, science, and technology and women's preferences still
do not differ much. They expect to be involved in teaching,
nursing, or fashion design, regardless of the number of courses
available in scientific disciplines or technology. Moreover, they
feel confident in these areas because the characteristics of the
female personality play a role. Therefore, the females find
themselves in other areas where it is difficult for males to
handle.
However, due to changes in history caused by the technological
revolution, women have developed an interest in science. Although
most of them still do not choose scientific courses due to a lack
of knowledge. Thus, providing high-quality scientific knowledge
from the early stages of school would encourage them to pursue
science, which can lead together with men to a large number of
achievements in natural science.
Overall, gender characteristics play a role in the choice of
courses. Although, there is nothing special or difficult in
engaging women in scientific activities. The inclusion of science
subjects in primary school and its subsequent expansion may attract
females to study natural sciences.
