“Write an essay which provides
both short- and long-term solutions to an environmental problem and
takes the costs into consideration. Refer to a specific case
study in your essay”
It is not a secret that our
planet suffers from natural disasters. Every year tsunami,
hurricanes, wildfires, floods happen all over the world. Thus,
wildfires lead to disruption of wild animals’ shelter, air
pollution and even casualties. Every year in South Australia 1-5
people perish per a year from wildfire. Here some potential reasons
of wildfire: drought, arson and global warming. In this essay I
will provide short- and long-term solutions on this
problem.
One of the main causes of
wildfires is a human factor, arson. So,
one of the short-term solutions
can be better law enforcement against arson. Due to arsonists
usually avoiding punishment they might think they can do that over
and over. So such law will help to hold such deliberate fire. As a
punishment deprivation of liberty can serve. Another solution is a
bit expensive, although it is effective and can prevent from huge
catastrophe – to set satellite images and drone aircrafts to
discover fires. It would be cost approximately 15 thousand per one
year. It is a really efficient way to protect areas from
wildfire.
What comes to long-term
solutions it can be offered government’s influence to forbid or at
least confine building in hot and dry areas. This can seem to be a
simple way to solve this problem, however it works. First of all,
it regulates and provides to live in better condition places.
Secondly, the ban could limit the possibility of fires by reducing
populated areas in such areas.
In addition, the ban may
also include strict building codes and requirements for the use of
fire-resistant materials, which also helps reduce the likelihood of
fires and fire spread. To realize this, the government needs to
make a decision to start giving such
instructions.
In conclusion, this problem of wildfires can be solved by
before mentioned solutions. However, there is always a risk and
these methods only can prevent fire. Our planet is our common home
and consequently we need to take care of
it.
