My Favourite Holidays and Celebrations


I want to tell you about my favourite holidays. I have quite a lot of them. I usually celebrate holidays with my relatives and friends.

New Year is my favourite holiday. We decorate a New Year tree with colourful glass balls and toys . We gather with all the family and give each other gifts.

At midnight on 31st December, there are fireworks in cities, towns and villages all over Kazahstan. All children wait patiently for Ayaz Ata (Father Frost) to come and bring them presents. But if children behave badly, they don’t get any presents.

My other favourite holiday is Nauryz. It starts on 21st March,

the first day of spring. I know Nauryz means “ new day”

We have a party to welcome the new year. There are songs, games and a lot of food. People dress beautifully, smile cheerfully and sing happily!

At Nauryz, everyone has to drink Nauryz kozhe. It's an old tradition.

Traditionally Nauryz kozhe consists of seven different ingredients.

They are: water, meat, salt, rice, corn and wheat

 quick - quickly

Adjectives ending with -y we must change -y to –i, then add - ly:
