GRAMMAR

I. T presents “Present and Past passive: affirmative, negative and questions.”

(T tells Ss to write in a notebook)

English has two voices: active and passive.

The active voice is used when the subject of the sentence does the action.

In the example, «My mother» is the subject and «the walls» is the object.

For example:

PRESENT SIMPLE

My mother(S) paints the walls(O).

PAST SIMPLE

Ayaulym(S) sent the letter(O)yesterday.

FORMING PASSIVE VOICE –

Object + to be + verb3/ed (past participle)

PRESENT SIMPLE

The walls(O-> S) are painted by my mother.

PAST SIMPLE

The letter(O-> S) is sent yesterday by Ayaulym.

Forming Present Simple Passive

Something is done by someone regularly / everyday / as expected...

Affirmative Form: Object + am / is / are + verb3/ed (past participle)

Negative Form: Object + am / is / are not + verb3/ed (past participle)

Question Form: Am / Is / Are + Object + verb3/ed (past participle) ?

Q + am/is/are + Object + verb3/ed (past participle) ?

Forming Past Simple Passive

Something was done by someone at sometime in the past.

Affirmative Form: Object + was / were + verb3/ed (past participle)

Negative Form: Object + was not/ were not + verb3/ed (past participle)

Question Form:

Was / Were + Object + verb3/ed (past participle) ?

Q + was / were + Object + verb3/ed (past participle) ?
