Give some examples of things they might need to communicate, and elicit ideas for how they would do this. For example: I’m cold. I’m hungry. Can I borrow your phone? Students will probably use a mixture of expressions and gestures to try to communicate the ideas. Elicit the words expression and gesture and write them on the board.

Tell students these are examples of non-verbal communication.
