- оқушының жалпы дүниетанымдық ақыл-ой деңгейін көтеру, рухани жағынан өсуіне жағдай жасау;

- білім алушыларда мінез-құлық мәдениетін қалыптастыру мақсатында жас ерекшелігіне сай мәтіндерді пайдалану;

  • білім алушы оқылған мәтін бойынша негізгі ойды айқындай алады;

  • тақырыптық сөздікті меңгереді;

  • оқып үйренген материал көлемінде түрлі мәтіндік тапсырмаларды орындай біледі;

Read the text. While reading try to find the answer to the question: “How can people offer their help to protect the planet if they are too busy to take part in an Earth Day event?”

Scientist and author1Carl Sagan once said that our earth is home, and that, “On iteveryone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every humanbeing that ever was lived out their lives,” and that, “Like it or not, for the momentthe Earth is where we make our stand.”Earth Day was first celebrated2in 1970,and now more than 193 countries around the world have Earth Day events3everyyear on 22 April.At these events people show their interest in protecting ourenvironment4. If you are too busy to go to an Earth Day event, or if you live toofar away, one website (www.earthday.org) suggests six things that you can do tohelp our planet5.First, you might eat less meat – it takes less land to growvegetables.Second,stopusingandthrowingawayplasticbottlesandotherplastic products6.Third, plant a tree.Fourth, buy and use fewer things and throwawayfewer things(recycle7things suchaspaper).Fifth,traveltoWashington, D.C. on 22 April and learn more about our environment, and how science canprotect it, at the “March for Science”.Sixth, think of your own ideas that will helpprotect the environment.For example, your classroom might write letters to thepresident or prime minister of your country.Be creative8.The important thing is to do something!For now,Earthisour onlyhome!

Pre-reading task. Answer the questions:

Can you play a musical instrument? Can you play the dombyra? What musical instruments do you know

Choosing a musical instrument

What kind of music do you like?

Many instruments are versatile, but some are more suited to certain types of music. Although there is some classical repertoire for the saxophone, for example, people associate it more with jazz, and it is not a permanent feature of many orchestras. Some instruments may lend themselves better than others to the music you like, so consider this before you start.

Do you want to play with other people?

Think about your long-term future as a musician. If you want to play with other people, what sort of instrument would be most practical? The initial attraction of playing a dazzling solo instrument like trumpet, violin, flute or lead guitar might fade when you realize how many other people are competing with you to get the main part with the same instrument! If you want to play rock music, there will always be a demand for bass players or drummers, and if you fancy being part of an orchestra, the bassoon is a great bet to make sure you are always needed.

Where are you going to practice?

Many people live in flats and practicing the drums, for example, will drive your neighbours crazy. Think about where and when you are going to practice, as well as patience of the people you live with or near. Electric versions of instruments like the piano, drums, guitar and even violin give you the option of playing into the night using headphones, while your housemates sleep in peace. Alternatively, you may need to consider going to a school or a community center to practise.

How much money can you spend?

This is quite a big factor. A lot of instruments can be purchased in different price ranges, for example, guitars. But this doesn’t alter the fact that many, such as piano, are always pretty expensive. If you can’t afford your chosen instrument, will you be able to borrow someone else’s or hire one?

Are there any physical limitations?

If you are small and don’t like lifting heavy objects, you won’t want to carry around a double bass. Apart from that, use your common sense, and don’t let your perceived physical shortcoming put you off. Who says small skinny people can’t play the tuba? It’s true that some wind instruments require a lot of lung power but with the right coaching, everyone can develop the technique.

Still not sure?

Talk to people you know who already play instruments. They might even let you try theirs. It’s also a good idea to find an experienced music teacher, preferably one who plays a few different instruments, who can give you some advice and push you in the right direction.

If you find an instrument you love and that suits your needs, you’ll find the time spent choosing was well worth it. Good luck with making your choice!

Millions of people love the sport of basketball in the United States and around the world,butfewpeoplestoptothinkaboutwhoinventedit,why,whereandwhen.JamesNaismith invented the game.He was born in 1861 in Ontario, Canada and he loved toplay sports in school.After he grew up, he became a sports education teacher before hemoved to the state of Massachusetts in the U.S.He invented basketball for two reasons.First, he wanted his students to have an indoor activity they could play during the wintermonths when it was too cold to play outside.Second, he believed that basketball wassafer than football.The very first game of basketball was played on December 21, 1891when James asked his college class to play a new kind of game that he invented.Someof his students weren’t very excited about this strange new sport, but they played anyway.Afterthegame,someonesuggestedthatthenewgameshouldbecalledthe“Naismith Game”, but James Naismith decided to call it “Basket Ball” (which later became“basketball”).There were some differences between the first games and the games wewatch today.For example, there are now fewer players on a team (five instead of nine).Also, the first games were played with soccer balls – the first real “basketball” was onlyinvented several years later.Basketball later became an international sport as it becamepopular in Europe after the First World War, and then in China, India, Japan and manyothercountries.

What an Olympics!

It’s all over! I’ve been writing my blog from London every day during the Olympics and the Paralympics and this is my final post to look back on a wonderful couple of months. Here are some of the things that were the most memorable for me:

The Opening Ceremony – this set the scene for the Games with an amazing show featuring music, dancing, historical figures, fireworks and British humour. A huge number of volunteers practiced for months to make everything perfect. The best moment was when the old lady in Buckingham Palace turned round and showed that she was neither a lookalike nor an actor but Her Majesty the Queen. The next best bit was when she jumped out of a helicopter with James Bond (although I think that actually was an actor!).

Team GB – I was very proud of our team as we kept on winning medals and finished in third position in the medal table, which is truly a great result for Great Britain. There were so many incredible sportsmen and women. The ones that stand out for me are Mo Farah, the Somalian-born Londoner who won the 10,000 and 5,000 metres with the whole stadium going crazy, Jessica Ennis, the popular super-athlete from Sheffield who won the heptathlon, and Nicola Adams who won the first female boxing medal in Olympic history for Britain.

The Olympic Stadium crowd - although the crowd cheered on the British, there was lots of support for athletes of other nationalities too like the wonderful Usain Bolt, from Jamaica, who won the 100 and 200 metres sprint to become the fastest man alive. There was also Oscar Pistorius of South Africa who was the first disabled person to compete in the Olympics. He went on to win two gold medals and a silver in the Paralympics.

New sports – I have really enjoyed being able to watch sports which are not normally shown on television. Before the Olympics I didn’t expect to love watching judo or find myself screaming at the television during a game of wheelchair tennis, but I really got into them. I didn’t know anything about global before the Paralympics but it became one of my favourite sports.

The organization and the atmosphere – it took seven years of planning and 70,000 volunteers to make everything go well. Many people have said that the organization was not as perfect as that of the Beijing Games, but there was a much better atmosphere which spread out through the whole city. The volunteers were always friendly and helpful and Londoners even began talking to each other, and visitors, on the underground trains!

Read the text.

Almost everyone knows how to read.People do it every day, and so we don’t reallythink about it very much.However, before about 550 years ago, very few peopleknew how to read.Then, in 1455, a German man called Johannes Gutenburginventedthe firstprinted1book.Readingthen becamemore andmorepopular.

However, learning to read is not easy and it takes many years in school to become agoodreader.Sothen,youmightaskyourself:Whydopeople read?

Well, people read for two reasons.First, they read so that they can learn new things.For example, people read text messages2to find out what their friends are doing,and they read to find out what time the next bus will arrive.They can even read(study) to learn how to become a restaurant cook, a teacher or a doctor.Manypeople also read for another reason: reading is fun.If you are a person who enjoysreading, there are many kinds of literature3to choose from.You can choose to readnon-fiction4and read the biography5of a famous actor like Will Smith, or a famoussoccer player like Ronaldo.Or you might decide to read fiction6, maybe sciencefiction7, and read A Journey to the Center of the Earth, by French writer Jules Verne.Ormaybe youjust wanttoreadsomefunnystoriesthat makeyoulaugh.

So, maybe you want to get some information and learn something new - or maybeyou read because you just enjoy it.Schools, the Internet, libraries and book storesare filled with thousands of short stories, novels8and biographies of famous peoplefrom all over the world, and there are millions of pages out there to teach you almostanything youwanttolearn.

Text 1 The donkey

In today’s modern world of articulated lorries, high –speed railways and super-efficient courier services, it is easy to forget that many rural communities and villages across the world would disappear if there were no donkeys.

Much of the world is dependent on donkeys moving food from farms to small towns. Donkeys generally work very hard in rural and mountainous areas where there aren’t any modern transport facilities, they carry huge amounts of food from the villages to the towns and bring fertilisers and supplies back to the village. If a lorry runs out of diesel or petrol, it cannot be used, but the donkey just needs grass, water and rest and is ready to work again for long hours.

Text 2 The railways

Many countries have an effective network of railways to help transport different types of goods, mostly unperishable goods.

The earliest recorded system was in Ancient Greece in 600BC. Since then, rail-links were built to connect short distances. In the 19th century, this changed dramatically. Many countries developed their own network with private links between different towns with Germany and Britain leading the way. These links provided the capacity to carry heavy goods such as coal, iron ore and wood. Building a railway was tremendously hard work for labourers, railways are extremely expensive to construct but essential for transporting raw materials and finished goods such as textiles quickly and cheaply. In the early 19th century, the first passengers travelled on the railways with horse-drawn carriages, from 1840-1850, Britain was completely connected by railways and used steam engines to pull carriages.

Text 3 Air Travel

Air-travel is the most modern form of public transport and it was developed in the 20th century. Millions of people use airplanes for a variety of reasons. It is also extremely expensive to set up air-travel facilities. Some travel for business, others go on holiday by air and others use cargo plane to move their products from country to country very quickly. Some courier companies now have their own fleet of planes ready to carry parcels and post more efficiently. There are different types of passengers services-some are cheap and provide a ‘no-frills’ service which is good for short journeys. Other airlines provide passengers with a luxurious flying experience.

Airports are getting busier and it is evident that more passengers and businesses than ever are using airplanes to get to their destinations.

The Most Stressful Jobs

Recently, my nine-year-old son proudly announced1 to me that he wanted tobecome a commercial airline pilot when he grows up.I’m happy for himbecause he spends hours reading books about airplanes, and he loves to playairplane game apps.It’s great to know what career you want at such a youngage.As well, the average annual2 salary for an airline pilot is quite good:US$105,270.Also, being an airline pilot means that you might travel to manyexotic3 locations around the world, places that most people might never get achancetosee.
