Biography
The
famous Kazakh poet Abai Kunanbayev was born
on the
10th of August in 1845 in Semipalatinsk Region. His father
Kunanbai was a steppe ruler(дала
билеушісі).
Abai`s mother, Ulzhan, was a wonderful
woman. She knew many
interesting stories. Abai’s grandmother Zere loved the boy very
much, and she started to call him Abai (which means
attentive,
careful)
instead of Ibraghim – the name given the boy by his
father.
Abai became a symbol of
friendship and brotherhood between the Russian and
Kazakh cultures. He loved Pushkin, Lermontov, and other
Russian poets and writers. He composed about twenty melodies. A
poet, a thinker and composer Abai was very popular
among
Kazakh people. He wrote
about 170 poems about people, nature, love, justice and other
important things.
The famous poet Abai Kunanbaev
died in 1904. We always remember the glory
of Abai, the real founder
of modern Kazakh culture and the famous Kazakh classical
poet.
