Кіріспе. Мұғалім: Dear friends! Today we are going to have a lesson of Poetry. You will recite and listen to different poems of the English and American poets of different times, also the thought about poetry of famous people. As poetry is a very special thing, which you cannot see, but only feel, everybody from you must express the image of your poem by means of excellent expressiveness and correct intonation and tone of your speech. Your judges are your teachers. Imagine your poem before your eyes and try to present it as clear as you can to reach the hearts of the listeners. Somerset Maugham once said “The crown of literature is Poetry. It is its end and aim. The writer of prose can only step aside when the poet passes”

LEADER 1:

Good morning, boys and girls!

Good morning now.

Wake, body, wake, mind!

Work, play, seek, find,

Eat breakfast, dinner too,

Wash, brush, sing, dance, and do!

Good morning now.

We shall recite English poems and find out who can do it very well.

LEADER 2:

It is time to start. Try to recite the poems artistically and in a natural manner. We shall clap our hands after each poem. I hope you will enjoy your English.

Poetry is a form of literary art in which language is used to express various emotions. Poetry is a piece of literature written by a poet in verse. Poetry is the language of imagination, feelings and emotions. As one famous Englishman said "Poetry is what makes me laugh or cry or yawn, what makes me want to do this or that or nothing." Poetry is a lot of things to a lot of people.

LEADER 1:First of all, let me introduce our jury.They are : Бисембекова Шамшибану Джамшитовна and Шингисова Жания Мухамбеткаливна, the student of 11th form Анесова Айгулзар. It's time to start. Our competition is made up of two parts. Your first task is to recite the poems which you have prepared. Try to do it artistically and in a natural manner. I hope you will enjoy your English.

The weather

When the weather is wet

We must not fret.

When the weather is cold

We must not scold.

When the weather is warm

We must not storm.

But be thankful together

Whatever the weather.

Blackbirds

There were two blackbirds,

Sitting on a hill,

The one named Jack,

The other named Jill;

Fly away, Jack!

Fly away, Jill!

Come again, Jack!

Come again, Jill!

A Child Wish.
I want to live
And not to die!
I want to laugh 
And not to cry!

I want to feel
The summer sun
I want to sing
When life is fun.

I want to fly
Into the blue.
I want to swim
As fish do.

I want to stretch out
Friendly hands
To all the young
Of other lands.

Night

The sun descending in the west,

The evening star does shine;

The birds are silent in their nest,

And I must seek for mine.

The moon, like a flower,

In heaven`s high bower,

With silent delight

Sits and smiles on the night.

LEADER 1:

Modern poems are also very popular among children. There are so many wonderful modern rhymes to choose from. They are different in writing styles and subject matter. Modern poems for children can be used both for educational purposes and entertainment.

They are widely used in teaching the English grammar, in practising phonetic skills and in memorizing new English words. The choice is so great. They are about toys and pets, about weather and seasons, about studies and rest, about school and holidays, about everything. Now let’s see one of them in the net

Book, Look!

Since books are friends,

They need much care.

When you are reading them,

Be good to them and fair!

Use books-marks, children,

To hold your place,

And don`t turn a book

Upon its clear face.

Remember, children, then:

Books are meant to read.

Not cut or colour them-

No, really never indeed!

Question

Some people live in the country

Where the houses are very small,

Some people live in the city

Where the houses are very tall.

But in the country where the houses are small,

The gardens are big,

And in the city where the houses are tall,

There are no gardens at all.

Where do you live?

Secret Ambitions

People sometimes say to me:

«Tell me, what do you want to be?»

I usually answer, «I don`t know»,

But it isn`t really so:

I want to win an Olympic race,

I want to see the Earth from space,

I want to travel to Timbuktu,

I want to be rich and famous, too.

I want to star on Hollywood`s screen,

I want to invent a new machine,

I want to be very clever and wise,

I want to win the Nobel prize.

But most all, I want to be.

Big Ben

Big Ban is high above the town,

It is a symbol of the Crown.

Its sight is handsome in the noon,

At night, it’s shining like a moon.

It has as many as four faces.

The deep voices heard in many places

Its work is industrious, in fact.

It tells the time to everyone,

The job is said to be well-done.

Sometimes its stroke is like a call

Of old Sir Benjamin Hall.

LEADER 2: A nursery rhyme is a poem for young children in Britain and many other countries. The traditional and well-known rhymes are sometimes classified as Mother Goose. Many, like ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’ and ‘Humpty Dumpty’, are considered part of British culture.

Spring is coming

Autumn

This is the season

When fruit is sweet;

When school friends meet,

When noise and gay,

And brown in the sun,

With their books and bags

To school they run.

Down, down, down

Red, yellow, brown

Autumn leaves fall down.

It’s cold or cool

The wind is away

The leaves are falling down

And trees are grey

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep

LEADER 1:

Our poetic festival has come to an end. We heard a lot of nice pieces of poetry for children, both traditional and modern ones. They were all well-performed and recited and now the jury will have to decide whose performance is the best in three main nominations: the best nursery rhyme, the best tongue twister and the best modern poem.

LEADER 2:

We hope you have enjoyed our poetic party and had a good time. Great this task was not a simplee one but you've done it. Great thanks to everybody.
