The role of Artificial Intelligence in developing English language skills

English is one of the most important languages in the world. English is the window to the world.[1] It is used in business, media, education and English is considered a common language for tourists all over the world. That’s why learning English is very important for students today. However, many students find it difficult to speak English. They know necessary words and grammar, but speaking and having a conversation with native speakers is not easy.

Using AI is a fun and helpful way to practice English speaking. It allows students to learn at their own speed, anytime and anywhere. Today, technology is developing quickly and there are a lot of AI tools. Our aim is to: select two most effective and useful AI apps, choose and demonstrate methods that can be used to improve English speaking skills.

In Kazakhstan, AI research is developing actively. The Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) at Nazarbaev university studies AI technologies. Artificial Intelligence is not only being studied but also introduced in education process. The Minister of Education Gani Beisembaev and the Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry, Zhasulan Madiev signed a joint order approving the conceptual framework for introducing artificial intelligence into the general, technical and post-secondary education system for 2025-2029. Also, AI can speak clearly and correctly only in some languages. One of these languages is Kazakh, which means that even beginner users can get tips or translations for difficult words

Internationally, many studies focus on testing AI systems and making sure they are reliable. Researchers study how to use AI safely and fairly. AI in education is also studied, for example how it can help students improve learning and writing skills.

In Kazakhstan and in other countries AI is being studied and used in different fields. AI is a new and advanced tool that can be very helpful if it is used correctly. But how can we use it to improve speaking English? What are the most effective methods? These are the main questions that this project seeks to answer.
